I just finished my second C++ book and I feel like I am ready to learn
some more. I have read alot so that I hope I don't sound ignorant when
I come here but sometimes all the googling in the world can't make up
for some good old fashion human to human Q/A.
I have been reading up on the windows API and MFC and I am still a
little confused....

Hello,
Could someone please tell me the history of GUI programming for
windows. In the early days, we had to write 100s of lines of code to
make a simple dialog box. Then along came MFC to simplify things. And
now, finally we have visual C#.NET.
Is that right? Is there anything else to it? Can someone please guide
me to some link form...

I realize this sounds like a bizarre question, but... is it possible to
create an MFC window as a child of a non-MFC parent?
Here's the background. I'm trying to create an add-in for a product that was
built using an old Mac to Windows porting library called Mac2Win. This
library apparently has you develop on the Mac and then does an API...

Hello!
Some information to be able to have a change to answer the question.
Assume I have a large system developed in MFC.
In this system we have only C++ code so no other language exist.
This system is 10 year old.
I just want your opinion about porting this system.
Assume it should be ported should it be to C++.net or C#.net.

Hello!
If you want to create an GUI application using a tool in visual studion 6.0
you are forced to use MFC.
I just want to know about the developing GUI application in C++ visual
studio .net. Is it still the same old MFC you use or it it completely
different more similar to C#?

Hi, all
I have an experience in programming with VS6 (Visual C++, MFC, STL),
but I'm totally beginner in VS.Net, so forgive me for the stupid
questions. But I'll really appreciate if somebody will spend some
time answering it.
The question is: previously in VS6 I've created some classes, based
on MFC and STL libraries, which perform some...

Is it generally OK for an EXE that has MFC linked statically to load an use
another DLL wich has MFC linked as shared DLL ?
To be more specific:
I have an EXE that links a lib. Let's call it mylib.lib. That Lib as well as
the EXE have MFC linked statically.
Then in a completely different project I have a regular DLL, wich is
compiled...

Hi all,
I want to put a simple GUI with 3 combo boxes and a datagrid on my
little app that looks at World of Warcraft auction data. Ideally I
want my app to have the work done in a STL based class and the GUI do
be just data and display.
I have Visual C++6 and am wading through the MFC tutorial. So far the
thing that has me most...

Hi,
I have an existing VC 6 MFC application which communicates asynchronly with
a VC 2005 managed code dll.
I use an unmanaged base class with virtual functions to access methods in
the MFC application.
Furthermore, I use a pointer to an unmanaged function to jump back into the
managed dll.
The managed part is basically a remoting...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then...

I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in...
