We've recently upgraded to .NET Framework 2.0, and we' re running into a
problem with our app's web launch.
The first time our exe is launched from a link in Internet Explorer,
IEExec.exe crashes, and the "Send Error Report" dialog comes up. If I click
on the link again, the application starts without any problems.
This only happens if the file isn't found in both the GAC and the IE
Temporary Internet Files. For example, if I clear the GAC and run the app
again, it works fine. But if I clear the GAC AND the Temporary Internet
Files, IEExec.exe crashes again.
Also, if I click the Debug button in the error report dialog, the
application will actually start. But if I click on Send Error Report or Don't
Send, then the application doesn't start.
There was another post about this, dated March 2005 that stated that this
was a known problem, but there was no available fix at the time. Has this
been fixed? If not, is there a known cause in the application code? Is there
a workaround? Can a configuration change in IIS or either the client or
server machine that could fix this?
