web apps using php to generate xml

Hi,

I'm interested in building database web applications. A perfect example
of what I want to do would be an e-commerce website with php, xml, xsl,
css, pear db and mysql. I understand the basics of the technology parts
seperately but I would like to read about integrating them and managing
the files (directory structure). Any books or sites that cover this
integration or parts of it?

Thank you,
Peter

[cross posted from comp.lang.php because I thought there might be some
good ideas here too. thanks.]

Hello all. I'm in the process of writing a business app in Python. (defining business app: data entry, validation, interactive reports, etc). For my purposes, it must be a native app (wxWidgets, GTK or Qt-based). A web application will not do it (although I would love it). To make a long history short: I used to develop business apps for a living for a long time (up to the mid 90s). My last experiences were with Delphi and VB. I know...

I'm writing an article and I need your informed opinions, so I ask you this: 1. Doesn't the web-enabled app generally run slower for one reason or another? 2. Isn't the fact that application graphics must be limited, just proof of #1, especially with low bandwidth situations? 3. Aren't the web-enabled apps really less feature rich because the developer has to emulate the controls of a thick/fat client app, and sometimes you just can't...

Ok, I know that .net inherently does not share session data across asp.net projects, but is there any decent work around to this. We already have a big chunk of our application using the asp.net session object (using state service). I'd like to start breaking out our functionality into component projects, but I'd like to get this session issue worked out first. Any ideas?? I found this article , but it sounds like kind of a pain.

We have multiple ASP.Net web apps in development. As a standard we are looking to go with SQL Server to hold state information. Can we have the multiple apps all point to a single State DB? Or do we need to install multiple instances of the State database on to the SQL Server (one for each Web app)? It would seem that you could run into troubles pointing several web apps at the same DB, because you would introduce the possibility (a...

I understand that VS.NET is supposed to compile native Win32 apps that do not require the .Net runtime. If that's the case then there is something else from the VS200x package that is required. MSVCR80.DLL and MSVCR80D.DLL are present and accounted for in Windows\System32. This is something else. Message says that the application configuration is incorrect. I just compiled a simple "Hello.cpp" app that exhibits the same behavior so...

Please note this is NOT a rant or complaint! And yes, I'm over-simplifying, but intentionally. Here goes... With ASP.NET Web applications I like that I can access data from anywhere without installing anything on the client (but I hate HTML and markup in general and it's limitations, the request/response model, state management, etc). AFAIK, Smart apps or smart clients or whatever we call them are simply variations of Web applications...

ASPX which means ASPX pages, the code-behind concept, User Controls, Web Controls etc. is very poorly designed and makes it extremely hard to develop professional quality web applications. ASPX is Microsoft's attempt to "dumb down" web application development to help unskilled developers such as web design agencies achieve some results. For high quality applications IHttpHandlers are the way to go.

With PHP, libraries, apps, etc. to do basic CRUD are everywhere. Ajax and non-Ajax solutions abound. With Python, finding such library, or apps. seems to be much more difficult to find. I thought django might be a good way, but I can not seem to get an answer on that board. I would like to put together a CRUD grid with editable/deletable/

I have serveral applications now running that are using the MembershipProvider classes and they are each using their own security tables in SQL Server 2005 instead of the express databases - they are all work well. Now we have a need to have many different asp.net websites and web services use a single security database because they all share the same user and administrator community. It doesn't seem there will be a problem with all of...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
