Is WPF going replace Winforms?
Where can WPF applications run currently? Must you have .net3.0
installed?

Dvorak is always interesting, albeit speculative. What hidden gem has
he found in Vista that helps developers? It can't be .NET/CLI, that's
been out forever.

I have a WPF application in VB in VSTS 2008 RTM. I am trying to
"blink" (momentarily clear) a field of data if the data is reloaded
from the database to give the user some visual indication of the LOAD
operation.
So on the LOAD button I clear the text fields, do
mainCanvas.UpdateLayout( ), and the reload the text field from the
database. But the text fields are not cleared long enough to see them
blink.

With Windows Forms application, just setting the opacity to 0.5 gave
me a 50% opaque normal styled (with the title bar, familiar three
buttons, borders and resizable) window. Did the same thing to a WPF
application, but the window didn't get translucent, instead only the
client area got gray. Then I found I have to set AllowTransparency to
true but then the window style must be set to None to set the
AllowTransparency to true. In short,...

Here I am learning WinForms and two months into it I learn there's a
WPF API that is coming out. Is this WPF out yet, and is it a threat
to WinForms, in the sense that all the library routines I memorize and/
or familiarize myself in WinForms will disappear in WPF? I did note
in one early version of C#, the non-generic "ArrayList" was replaced
by the generic and template <based List, but that kind of change is
not a big deal. If WPF...

Took a quick look at WPF, wrote a hello world program, noted it's lack
of a decent API (for example, no lightning bolt to add Event Handlers,
and every control in WPF does not have as many event handlers as in
Winforms it seems, nor as many extension methods / properties, for
example, in WPF a label has no '.Text' extension method or property,
so you cannot write "label1.Text = ABC".
I also note "Blend (TM)" which is a API/user interface...

Is there any control in WPF which can host a WPF window? If not now, are
there any plans to improve WPF to implement window hosting.
Related question: is it not possible to build a MDI application in WPF.
If there is a WPF newsgroup, please direct me there.
Thanks,
Dean S

I am not looking for a "hybrid" WPF/WinForm or WinForm/WPF solution, but
rather a pure WPF/WPFsolution.
I want to host a WPF window inside another WPF window. I want to host a WPF
window as a "control" inside another WPF window, much like a button is
hosted inside a WPF window. This may not be possible today in WPF, but that
is what I am trying to determine. Since WPF is a 1.0 product, perhaps the
answer is: wait for a more complete...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
