Polling in WCF service

2 New Member
I am new to WCF. I need to add some polling logic which is basically going to call a method every few mintues to check for new data on a share. How do I do this in a WCF service?

We are in the initial stages of design analysis and I'm trying to come up with some ideas on how to handle the feature our users are requiring from the new application. We are using VB.NET/window forms Feature Requested: A user will be entering some data that will trigger an a notification event. For example I am a research analyst entering a sell recommendation for a stock. Once that action is preformed a notification should be sent...

We're using Enterprise Application Block June 2005 w/ Visual Studio 2003 .NET. We've configured our ASP.NET web service to run under a specific domain account using the instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329290 All connections to SQL Server are set to be TRUSTED. The debugger shows that the main web service threads are (correctly) running under the specified domain account and they are able to...

I am trying to write a service that will send out emails whenever a file hits a folder. I know that email services do it. Is there a way to do this without constantly reading the folder to see when a file is put into it? I just want to be notified by an event that something has been put into a folder. Thanks,

Hi, Apologies if this not quite the right forum, but I am looking for ideas/method of polling a webservice with different parameter values at different times, the schedule for polling the webservice is coming from a database. My initial idea is to run a windows service getting the schedule(s) from a db but how do I keep track of possible multiple timer events on a daily basis from within the windows service. Should I be using MSMQ or...

I have a particular requirement when I call a web service; I have to call the web service, wait until the web service returns or my timeout expires (whichever is sooner) and exit. I tried to use the MSDN example to poll a web service and abort it after a specified timeout. Have a look at the code below: /* Set the timeout in seconds*/

Is anyone aware of any freely available software written in a .Net language for adding polling features to an existing website? I'm looking for just a polling component and not interested in installing something like DotNetNuke just to get polling. Thanks

Hi everyone, I would like to be able to send updates to my web page from the server. If I understood correctly, this is not possible to achieve in a web environment, unless some sort of polling mechanism is used. I read a few articles and some of them suggest using some Javascript, while other suggest using Web Services. Some ways to achieve some kind of polling mechanism is on this document:...

Hello all, I have a little application that needs to poll a device (CAN communications) every 10 to 15 ms otherwise the hardware buffer might overflow when there are message burst on the bus. I would implement an interrupt driven model, but the external device (which is connected via USB) does not support interrupts therefore the device needs to be polled at a specific interval. So my question is how can I implement a "deterministic"...

I'm sitting on the fence on this one, and wanted to get some other people's input. If you're a big B2B person, I would love to hear your feedback... I've got a SOA system. It's based on a combination of WCF Services and ASP.Net Pages. The consumers of this service are companies all over North America. Essentially, we've got some long running operations that a vendor can kick off. These opertaions can take anwhere from 5 minutes to 2...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
