Installing VC2008 SP1

Hello,

I am trying to install VC2008 SP1, but it requires
5GB on the "C:\" drive. I don't have 5GB available
on the "C:\" drive, but I do have 1/2 TB available
on the "D:\".

How do I change the installation settings to install
SP1 on the "D:\" drive? I installed VC2008 on the
"D:\" drive.

Thanks,
-jc

If the two partitions are on the same physical drive, why not adjust the
size of your C:\ partition to provide the free space needed?
If you have two physical drives, identify content on C:\ that can be
temporarily moved to D:\ for the install.

Hello,

Yes, I have two physical drives.
Why can't I set the installation
program to install the SP1 on
the "D:\" drive? I was able to
install the VS2008 on the "D:\"
drive.

Thanks,

There is a Windows installer caching directory where a
copy of the msi or msp files is cached.

It could be that your %temp% directory would also
receive a temporary copy of those files, so you might
want to move you temp directory to some place on
D and see if that helps.

With an older installation I was able to use directory junctions
to move some system stuff over to another partition.

But for my last system setup I chose a big C partition and
only a smaller data partition to avoid those kind of storage
problems.

So I could even happily format C, reinstall everything and
still have my relevant data on my second partition.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows.
