Converting Unmanaged array Struct to Managed One

18 New Member
Hi All,

The question is regarding Unmanaged and Managed code conversion in C# for structures.

I have two structures like:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. public struct Detail
  2. {
  3. public int age;
  4. public string address;
  5.
  6. public Detail(int _age, string _address)
  7. {
  8. age = _age;
  9. address = _address;
  10. }
  11. }
  12.
  13. public struct Name
  14. {
  15. public Detail[] names;
  16. }
  17.
While passing the code to StructureToPtr function:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. Name some = new Name();
  2.
  3. some.names[0].age = 23;
  4. some.names[0].address = "123,ABC Farms";
  5.
  6. int Size = Marshal.SizeOf(some);
  7. IntPtr data = Marchal.AllocHGlobal(Size);
  8. Marshal.StructureToPtr(some, data, true);
  9.
This code is showing error as Parameters are not correct, and if i tried to pass the same code without using array, it worked perfectly.

Can anyone please suggest me what should i try to resolve the problem.

Check this thread. You will have to use IntPtr and then copy each struct in your array manually.

I've converted " byte" to "byte *" at times, using 'unsafe' and fixed { .... }, but the reverse does not seem to work. In this case, a C++ DLL returns a byte * and a length. What is the best way to convert these to straight C#-compatible straight " byte" arrays? PS: The C++ DLL is actually managed and I have access to the source. Perhaps there is a simpler syntax for doing the conversion there, and returning a C# compatible array...

I am new to VS.C++ and am having a hard time when i have to share data between managed and unmanaged code. For example, I need to read binary data from a file and then call an non-CLR dll function passing the data that was read as a void* below is a snippet of the code that i have written in an attempt to do this. I tried __pin but that is no longer supported in VS.2005. is there a better way than reading into the array as I did? How do...

I'm having trouble accessing an unmanaged long from a managed class in VC++.NET When I do, the contents of the variable seem to be mangled. If I access the same variable byte-by-byte, I get the correct value. Regardless what I set the variable to, the value that is returned for a long is always the same value. What's going on...can anyone help me? A short version of the code follows:

Hi, I have a logger.dll (unmanaged c++ dll compiled in vs2005). I have a C# interop to use that dll in managed code implemented in Interfaces.dll (used by other C# dlls). I also have a number of other C# dlls referencing Interfaces.dll and using logger.dll interop for logging.

Hi, I have several interfaces in CLI that I access via c#. My problem is, is that down in the unmanaged c++, which the CLI lies on top of, I have a lot of c_str() happening. But all of my methods in CLI return System::String^. I originally just gcnew'd System::String^ passing in the c_str(). But I can't really have as many gcnew's as I'm using for overhead and for fear of leaks. So my question is this, how can I get the char*...

Hi, I have a C# program that uses an unmanaged dll that has a function similar to the signature below : void f(out MyStruct arr, out int num); // num = actual array length returned The array must be allocated (with known max length = 10) before the call to the dll function (the dll just fills it ,with no allocations). The definitions of Mystruct and :

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules. He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms. Adolph will...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
