Marshal structure containing array of variable length

4 New Member
I want to marshal a structure containing a variable length array which will be populated within a C++ dll. the structure is the following

[StructLayout(La youtKind.Sequen tial, CharSet = CharSet.Ansi)]
Public Structure myStructure{

Public int size;
Public myInsideStructu re [] inside;
};

The myInsideStructu re just contains a string. The problem is the size of the myInsideStructu re wont be known until runtime and the size variable will have the number of posts in the myInsideStructu re structure array. I know this has to be done by using intPtr. I just dont know how this should be done. In theory i would like to get a pointer to the size variable and then i would know the size of the myInsideStructu re. Would be so happy if someone could help me with an example of how this could be done.

Best regards rob

Hi All, I have a problem with marshaling complex structures (containing numbers, strings, arrays of another structures) to native C function in dll. I have already posted same question to .compactframework thread, but nobody helped. main problem is that I have tried all the workarounds I have found in the Inet but nothing worked... I tried passing IntPtr, Byte Arrays, Serialisation, even used OpenNETCF, but

Can anyone suggest how I would marshal a variable length structure back from an API call. Specifically, I am looking at the WaitForDebugEvent function, which returns a DEBUG_EVENT structure. However, the DEBUG_EVENT structure is defined as a union, and the size and contents vary depending on the event code contained in the header. typedef struct _DEBUG_EVENT { DWORD dwDebugEventCode; DWORD dwProcessId;

I have a piece of code that needs to read the contents of a binary file (that I've created with another app) into an array of structures. The binary data in the file represents just a series of singles that correspond to those in my structure detailed below. So when I load the file, all that I know for certain is that there will be some multiple of these eight singles represented in the binary data. My code below will read the data...

Hi, I'm upgrading a VB6 app to VB.net and I'm having a problem with a call to a function provided in a DLL. The function takes the address of a structure which it will fill in with values. I get an error: ---------------- An unhandled exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occured in

I want to pass a managed c# byte (8 bit) array into a unmanaged c++ function: extern "C" void AddData(unsigned int* data); I use P/Invoke on managed side to do the marshaling as following: public static extern int AddData(IntPtr data);

Hello! I hate having to do this, because im almost certain there is someone in the world that has come across this problem and i just havent found their solution yet, so i do appologise if this has already been covered. I have been trying to learn c# as fast as possible in the last month and in doing so i have been re-visiting old C/C++ problems and trying to overcome them in C#. What i have is a very complex serise of structures. Id...

When using Marshal to copy data from a byte array to the structure below, only the first byte of the "other" array is getting copied from the original byte array. What do I need to specify to get Marshal.PtrToStructure to copy the all the data into the "other" array? unsafe public struct DeadReckoning {

I'm working on a data structure that began life as a skip list derivative, but has evolved to the point that it now only has a passing resemblance to them. Each node of this structure has a few constant size variables (ints and the like), an array holding the actual data (chars in this case) and a random number of pointers to other nodes in the structure. At the moment my code uses a fixed size array for the contents (which may or may...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
