I'm finishing up developing a speech control jukebox (see

Can anyone point me to the easiest to use free library that does very
basic regular expression matching and substitution? E.g. I need do
stuff like this: (perl expression follows)

I'm new to c and gcc. I was wondering if anyone can point me to a web page
or book that has a list of the warning messages and their meanings.
Are the warnings the same no matter what compiler you use, or are they
different for each compiler? I have looked all over the gcc web site, but I
can't find anything that explains what the warnings are.

From time to time, I find myself cross checking one block of code
against another. Usually older stuff in which I've made modifications
that don't work. I don't remember what all the changes were so I
have to print an earlier version and compare it against a printout
of a more recent version. I am dyslexic and it is helpful to have
someone read one copy while I follow along on another copy
until we hit a discrepancy.

I am working on MontaVista Linux on a PPC board.
The compiler I am using is a gnu cross compiler cross compiler
(ppc-82xx-gcc)
The application/software that is being run, is messing up the memory
due to which a subsequent malloc fails.
When the application core is dumped I do not get any backtrace in the
code (although the application is compiled with debug symbols, with -g
option). The only thing I get is the address of the function...

Hi,
I'm trying to find the best way to work with compiler warnings. I'd
like to remove *all* warnings from the code, and playing around with
the warning level, I've noticed that compiling with /W3 I get warnings
that with /W4 are shown as remarks, e.g.:
warning #177: variable "Foo" was declared but never referenced
....is displayed as a "remark #177" with /W4. That doesn't fit the
