I deploy be-fe solutions to clients, and provide them with updates as a web link to the Fe file, wrapped in an installer. I can generally simulate their shares, if they are using a mapped drive. However if they are not using mapped drives, and are using their own domain server address, then I cannot simulate that so easy. Can i manually change the address where the linked table objects point, before deployment.? (I cant do it with a...

I installed the exception management block on my computer and it defaulted to: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Application Blocks for .NET\Exception Management\Code\VB\ Now I want to make a copy of that project in a different location where I can experiment with customizing it while leaving the original project safe and intact. So I copied everything to its new location OK, but now I need to run: Installutil.exe...

Alright, I think I have a better perception of assemblies and environment variables now. The question I had initially posted was pertaining setting of environment variables using the VSI installer. This was presumed essential for specifying the paths to certain dlls. Subsequently, the idea was dropped, and the appication configuration file approach was adopted. However, the application is not able to resolve the assembly location, and...

Hi, I am creating a MergeModule that is required to read the Windows Registry to determine a location only known at runtime and install files. What I can't figure out is, how to change the DefaultLocation property of the File Installation Properties? My thinking is this needs to be done in a CustomInstaller (Custom Actions). Anyone have any good references?

I am using a setup project and Windows Installer to deploy my application and have some additional code in custom actions. In this code I need to refer to one of the install files but I cannot find how to determine the path. For example, if the install CD is in the d: drive and the user runs d:\setup.exe I want to know that it has been run from d: (rather than e: or any other location) so that I can build up the path to one of the folders...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
