What's better about Ruby than Python? I'm sure there's something. What is
it?
This is not a troll. I'm language shopping and I want people's answers. I
don't know beans about Ruby or have any preconceived ideas about it. I have
noticed, however, that every programmer I talk to who's aware of Python is
also talking about Ruby. So it seems that Ruby has the potential to compete
with and displace Python. I'm curious on what basis it...

I see rotor was removed for 2.4 and the docs say use an AES module
provided separately... Is there a standard module that works alike or
an AES module that works alike but with better encryption?
cheers,

I have written a windows service that needs to perform certain functions only if a User is logged in. The problem I am running into is that I get an error if the computer is in the process of being shut down or restarted. At all other times, the service runs just fine.
I need to either detect a logon/logoff event OR check somehow as to whether there is currently a valid logged on user. The closest I have found is ManagementEventWatcher...

I have a function that restricts access to a page to logged in users.
When a user who isn't logged in goes to the page, it will dynamically
generate a login form.
I'm trying to use it in conjunction with the free shared SSL
certificate offered by my host. To use SSL, you would change a URL
like this
http://mydomain.com/page.php

I have a strange problem that I think deals with security on SQL 2005.
I have a scheduled task that runs on a Windows 2000 machine. It calls
a vb script which creates a connection to SQL Server.
We migrated a database from SQL 2000 to 2005 which is on a different
box. I changed the connection in the vb script to use the new sql
server. The original connection to SQL 2000 used the 'sa' account
coded into the connection string , which...

A somewhat obscure hack has emerged recently that is an offshoot of the now-infamous XSS.
It is known as Cross-Site Request Forgery, or XSRF for short. XSRF is a form of temporary identity theft that can cause your computer to initiate banking transactions, send emails or text messages, or even change account info on your favorite site... without your ever realizing it!
THE GOOD NEWS
Before we get started on the doom and gloom, you...

I want to add a feature to a project I'm working on where i have
multiple users set up on my Postgres database with varying levels of
access. At the bare minimum there will be a login user who only has
read access to the users table so that users can log in. Once a user
has been logged in successfully I want to escalate that user's access
level to one appropriate to their role, which will include switching
the postgres user they are...

I have a VB.Net console application written in VS 2003 that produces a .exe file that now sits on a Windows 2000 server directory. This exe does the following 3 things:
1.) Using the VB Interaction SaveSetting() method, it programmatically updates the system registry under the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE key and saves a directory location used by a PDF driver (so that...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
