Update registry without administrator login

34 New Member
Hi All,
I want to update the registry. I have administrative rights so it works fine. But if i login as a normal user and not as an admin then it gives me an error as i dont have enough previleges.
Please tell me that can i update registry without having administrative rights?
Thanks for any help.

That should not be allowed. Allowing it would be a serious security breach.

But i want to assign the permission only while installing the appplication after that the permissions can be revoked.

Is there any method in vb.net that grants the permission for a while and again revoke it?
please let ne know.
Thanks

There might be a way that requests the user enter adim privledges and validates them.
I have been looking for that kind of functionality forever, but cannot find it.

I doubt you will find anything except maybe through a serious security flaw with what you want though.

No, it's used to guard against such security violations. Also notice
In general, the methods of permission classes are used by the security infrastructure; they are not typically used in applications.
Your application really just needs to run with admin priviledges even if a normal user is running it. You then put controls (requests for Admin password) when the application is about to do admin related stuff.

Beginning to look at the mechanics of deployment at our site for our new project, our first in .NET. Management insists all apps will run from the network, not from desktops and we've managed to figure that out; Application exe files will each reside in their own network folders under N:\NETAPPS, and the strongly named assemblies which are referenced in the GAC are *ALL* located in a single folder, N:\ASSEMBLIES. When there are updates...

I know this topic has been discussed before but I couldn't find any thread more recent than about 18 months and was interested in what conclusions people had come to recently. Invariably 3 advantages of XML config files are promoted; 1. The .NET framework provides built-in support for reading application configuration data from .config files very easily 2. Using these files makes it possible to deploy an application using

I'm attempting some remote registry manipulation via C#. I've written a test app to simply grab a specified key from a specified hive on a specified machine. The call to OpenSubKey is throwing System.SecurityException. Also of note: Sitting at my local box, I can open regedit and connect to the remote registry. I see three hives: _CLASSES_ROOT, _LOCAL_MACHINE, and _USERS. I can open all but HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. When I try to expand that...

I am trying to access a registry key on computer like so: key = RegistryKey.OpenRemoteBaseKey(RegistryHive.LocalMachine, computerName).OpenSubKey(Subkey); There are two keys I am trying to read, 1 works, and the other gives me the "Requested registry access is not allowed." i've narrowed it down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office It doesnt let me access that path, but the permissions are the same.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
