I have created a console application in C# that appears to not even really
get started unless the code group in which it is contained is set to
FullTrusted. The Everything permission set does not even work. The
application never gets started far enough to get into any of my resource
usage (which is several FileIOPermission's). I do not have any assembly
level Permissions defined, and all of my FileIOPermission usages are
imperative.

Hello!
I am working on improving my threading skills and came across a question.
When working with the ReaderWriterLock class, I am getting an unhandled
exception if I acquire a WriterLock with a timeout less than the time
required to process the code section it protects.
The code listed below is just a small application I wrote to check the
behavious of the different threading / synchronization techniques. Basically
the application...

I'm getting different behavior if my code is running under the
debugger or not.
I have modified Winmain to look like this:

Hi,
I made a handler for unhandled errors. But before that is executed, VB.NET
gives me the standard error window. In VB6 there was a setting
(errortrapping) about handling errors
in the design environment and classes, which should prevent the before
mentioned behaviour. Does VB.NET have a setting like it? Or is there
something else?
Thanks in advance
Frank

Can someone explain why this code pops up a messagebox saying the
ThreadAbortException wasn't handled?
The first exception is reported only in the debug pane, as expected.
The second (caused by thread.Abort()) is reported twice: once in the debug
window, and once through the message box.
Is it because the thread was sleeping when the exception occurred?

When you have an unhandled exception in vb.net how do you view the
exception information in the debugger?
In C# the debugger creates a local variable that points to the
exception and you can view it in one of the windows (autos or locals,
don't remember which). That doesn't appear to be the case with
vb.net.
I also tried using the command window to inspect "Err" but that gave
nothing useful (always empty).

Trying to automate processing 80,000 data sets through 15 web pages.
Application URL creates a new IE instance in which runs first a login form
and then runs the rest of the pages in the new window.
I can connect to a running Excel instance and obtain information from the
Excel DOM. I cannot do the same with Internet Explorer. However, I can
successfully create an new IE instance and manipulate it. Using an
application that has its own...

Hi All,
I am subscribed to the AppDomain.CurrentDomain.AssemblyLoad event,
which fires whenever a new assembly is loaded. Our application loads an
assembly, then through this event, checks to see that the assembly
conforms to a set of rules. If the assembly does not conform, then I
throw an exception that (for now) should cause the whole application to
come to a crashing halt, as it is unhandled by any of my code.
However the problem...

Hi there,
Im experiencing an unhandled exception that seems to be impossible for
me to catch. I am launching an assembly of mine from within another
assembly using the Process object. Once the process finishes it causes an
unhandled exception, even though both host and child process have all thread
exceptions handled.
Unfortunately this is making debugging a complete and utter nightmare as
the application has already terminated by...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
