ClickOnce updates

3 New Member
Hi,

I'm using ClickOnce for all of my installations and updates. However, when I modify any of the datasets in my application, when a user downloads the new update, all their data saved in their particular database is lost. After searching Google, I found a workaround to this. If I exclude the database file from the update, everything is fine, kind of. The problem is, if I exclude the database file from future updates, then if someone tries to install the application while these updates exists on the server, ClickOnce goes right to the latest version during installation and the installation fails because there is no database file within that update.

Now I do have a separate installation directory and I was under the impression that for every new installation, ClickOnce would first download those files in the installation directory and then check for any updates in the updates directory. If I could only get ClickOnce to install those files located in the installation directory first and then check for updates, everything would work fine. Has anyone else come across this problem and found a solution.

Thanks,
Andrew

I've been playing around with ClickOnce today, and it's all good stuff. Except, that if I change my application to NOT be full trust (which seems to make very little difference to the user prompt, which scares me!) but to be installed on the start menu, it seems I don't have permission to call CheckForUpdate()! I understand that if I'm not a full trust app, I can't read the filesystem etc., but not being able to update myself seems a bit...

I've been asked to create an app that deploys in the way ClickOnce does, and updates itself silently, with no user interaction at all. Is this possible using ClickOnce or does the user always get prompted when a new version is available?

I have an application which requires a number of DLLs (unmanaged ansi C dlls) to reside in the same directory as the application. I currently have these dlls included in the project folder and marked as "content". When I publish the application with ClickOnce and update my application - these dlls (along with a .chm help file that doesnt change) keep being redownloaded. From what I've read in all of the ClickOnce marketing hype, it...

Hi, I've have searched google, but can't find a solution to my problem. Om my develloper machine, I use one app.config, but when I deploy, I need to deploy another app.config. The reason is, that on my develloper machine, my app.config sqlconnection is pointing to my (local) database and I have several settings like "Debug=True", but when I deploy (using ClickOnce), I need to use an

I am using ClickOnce to distribute a program. It works well except for one detail. When a new version is installed, the program does not initialize properly immediately after the update. The sequence is the user starts the program, is informed a new version is ready, installs it, when it is complete and the main form is displayed, the user needs close the form, and restarts the program to the form to initialize properly. The problem is...

We have a VS2005 Team setup and are developing a Windows app (smart client). We are in the cattle feeding business and have 10 distinct feedyards across the U.S. When we wish to deploy an update to our app, we must change an app setting in the project (the IP where the data access layer is) and also the URL in the ClickOnce (to correspond to a server at a particular feedyard). Once we publish, we have to change the app setting and the URL...

The installation of my application works fine, I published the files on a webserver and installed the app on a winxp client, updates works also fine. But here's my first question: - Our app produces xml-files on startup, which stores several informations like gui-settings etc...now when I publish a new version and my app updates, this xml-files rested in the old folder...

Hello guys, There is an application (c# @ vs2005 SP1) that needs to be deployed in a very controlled way. ClickOnce was selected to do this task. This application works over a database and, some times, this database needs to be updated together with the code. The problem is that not all the clients are in the same local network, so, secondary servers were deployed using windows services to transfer the

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
