Tooltip for Bound ListBox and Combobox

27 New Member
I'm working with Visual Basic .Net 2005

I'm trying to create a tooltip for a bound listbox and a combobox. I want the tooltip to be of the item the mouse is hovering over. Is there an easy way to do this? I stumbled across some code that required identifying the position of the mouse in X, Y and then finding the height of each item, etc, etc. Is that going to be my best option?

Hi,

Try this one

Assembly System.Winforms .dll.
Namespace System.Winforms .

In .NET, the ToolTip class provides tooltip functionality for Windows Controls. Creating a ToolTip object is similar to any other .NET class object. You call Constructor to create a tooltip object.

There are two steps to add a tooltip to a control. First you create an instance of ToolTip control using ToolTip class. And second you attach tooltip to a control by using ToolTip class's SetToolTip member and call set Active property true.

Active = true.

Say you want to add a tooltip to a button, button1.

1. Create a Tooltip Object

Private toolTip1 As ToolTip = New System.WinForms .ToolTip (Me.components)

2. Attach tooltip to the control.

Private toolTip1 As ToolTip = New System.WinForms .ToolTip (Me.components)
toolTip1.SetToo lTip (button1, "This is tooltip test")
toolTip1.Active = True

Thanks
Mahesh

I can create a tooltip for the bound listbox and the combobox. Unfortunately, what I cannot do, is make the tooltip say what I want it to say. I want the tooltip to read the text of an item that the mouse is hovering over in both the combobox and the listbox.

Thanks for your last response though, if I had not been able to get my tooltip started, that would have helped.

I want a listbox to position to a letter provided by the user. Normally, when the user keys a letter, the listbox positions automatically to the first entry starting with that letter in the first column. I want to allow the user to select the column to be searched. For eaxample, assume a list box that looks like this: ____________________________

I have a listbox with datasource from a dataview. When a user selects a different item in a combobox then I need to refresh the listbox to the appropriate listing based on that combobox's selected value which is included in the listbox's filtering statement. Is the only way to do this is to dispose the dataview and then create a new one and then bind it to the listbox? Is there a better way than this? Thanks, Alpha

Hi! If you move the mouse over an item that's part of a treeview and wider than the treeview, a tooltip showing the full item text will be displayed. I try to do this for ListBoxes and ComboBoxes. For ListBoxes I got it working, but not for the ListBox part of ComboBoxes. Do you know any sample code? Thanks in advance! Timo

Hi- I've seen this problem discussed a jillion times but I cannot seem to implement any advice that makes it work. I am porting a large project from VB6 to .NET. The issue is using the combo box bound to a table as a lookup, drawing values from another table to populate the available selections. This all worked fine in VB6. I have distilled the problem down to a simple form drawing data from the Northwind database for a representative...

I'm displaying a tooltip related to a listbox based on the selected item. It works well except when I move the cursor away from the listbox and then hover back over it, the tooltip pops up history for each item I have selected. For example, let's say I select an item. The tooltip pops up with the text. Good. Then I select a 2nd item, and the tooltip shows that text. Good. Then, I drag the cursor away from the listbox. The tooltip...

Can I use a bound ComboBox for both browsing and editing? I'm working on a small, standalone database application using Visual C#.NET 2003 and an Access data file. In order to keep the number of different screens down to a minimum, I'm trying to use the same Windows Forms for both browsing and for updating. This works fine for TextBoxes, but I'm running into problems with my DropDownLists (ComboBoxes).

I am using .NET 2.0 forms and running on Windows XP SP2. When I have a tooltip on a combo box, and the combo box is expanded (“dropped down”) using the arrow, it will no longer display it’s tooltip, no matter how long I hover. Even if I move off the control and back it will still not display its tooltip. If I then go to another control that has tootips, then back to the combobox, it will again display its tooltip, until the next time it is...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
