In a winform application, I use worker threads to perform asynchronous tasks
(e.g., mail merge with Word). The thread procs need to gather some user
options from controls in the UI, and I know that must be done using a
delegate that's running on the main UI thread. (Can't safely access a
window from a thread different than the one that created the window.)
Rather than write and execute 7 separate methods to get things like checkbox
and...

Hello,
I am probably facing a sort of language barrier, but i can't really get what
'marshalling' is in terms of .NET
Is it a kind of type casting? And when do you use it?
Thank you,
Andrey

Hi, And thanks for any help.
I am having trouble declaring a struct containing strings that can be
Serialized using the following functions. It works, but the strings wont
store the right number of characters, they store one less with a null at the
end! Whats the point in a marshalling as fixed length if it wastes space
with a null! How can i make it marshall the strings as "proper" fixed length
strings, where the full 8 (or 3)...

Hi,
I want to use Net Forms (I think thats what theyre called) to build a
really sexy, cool front end - but then use Visual C++ (not VC++ .NET -
because I want native code, not IL) to create a "blisteringly" fast
application with a cool front end.
One reason why I don't want the CLR code is because it is relatively
easy to reverse engineer the code, plus I don't really like the idea of
interpreted code at all (call me old fashioned) -...

I am familiar with the VB6/VC6/ATL way of marshalling an incoming
interface via New (VB), and then marshalling an outgoing interface with
some form of Advise. To me it looks like .Net has marshalling on a
function-by-function basis. Is there a way in .Net to marshall entire
interfaces?

I have written the following program using VS2005. The program is a Dynamic
Array similar to System.Collections.ArrayList in .NET. The program works
okay until I reach 65536, I can't seem to figure out why, as it seems my
logic is working okay. I am a .NET programmer so I am not used to dealing
with un-managed C++ code. Please criticize my code if you think it is poorly
written.
This is the loop from main() that will blow up the program...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
