Hello All, I stumbled across the site and decided to register! I currently have a situation where im more looking for advice than technical help!

I work in a very small software house, who currently employ 2 programmers, and myself, I run the Software Support department.

We are contemplating employing a new Support worker, effectively taking over my job in the long run.

I want to move over into VB.net and become a programmer, my boss has also told me he will give me the backing I need to try and do this.

My problem is though, ill hold my hands up, I am terrible at exams! Most of the courses seem to revolve around taking exams to gain certifications, however though that would be nice, I have a job, I will be a programmer in my exisitng workplace, but I would much prefer a course or another method of learning vb.net without examinations?

I have seen a few articles on this site regarding books to buy, so I was wondering if anybody could give me any advice on ways to learn VB.net, preferably 'self-study', and materials that would be beneficial to me.

Your advice will be greatly appreciated, thankyou all for your time to read this!

Cheers! R

Many certification books are helpful for those learning because they give you step by step examples in the chapters as well as real life scenarios at the end of each chapter. Take a look at the VB.NET certification books by Que for MCAD/MCSD. They were very helpful in learning the material and passing the certification exams.

Good luck

Thanks for your advice so far, I will start to have a look at these soon! Are there any other tips anyone may have to someone looking to get in to VB.net with some limited experience? I have seen items where people say work thorugh a book, then set yourself little projects to write yourself to put what you have read in to practice? Thanks for the advice so far! R

Just joined this group, fascinated by Python. Many thanks to those who have worked so hard on it! One big problem, though: I was completely thrown by this, which I quote from the Tutorial: > Comparisons can be chained. For example, a < b == c tests whether a is less than b and moreover b equals c. I threw a mental wobbly and wasted two...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...

These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention.
