Hi.
I'm reading a 5 meg (or so) file from the response stream of a WebRequest,
and it's pitifully slow. I mean *really* slow, in the order of 15 minutes to
download. Now obviously I'm caching this on the client (Windows app /
IsolatedStorage), but I can't have it taking this long to download in the
first instance. We've got Gigabit LAN. what's the bottleneck?
I could make the resource available via a different protocol / means if...

I read an XML file with a stream reader in VB.Net. When I
look at the stream reader output in debug mode (by
passing cursor over the stream reader object)the format
is a perfect replica of the file as displayed when I open
the xml file in VS .net 2003 IDE.
When I perform the same procedure in C# the stream reader
obkect displays a chaotic mess. Lots of whitespace after
and "\r" and "\n" after each element. The problem is that
I cannot...

pardon my ignorance as I am a self-taught hobbyist programmer.
I am curious after reading up on SharpZipLib. Can I embed a zipped txt file
in my program? Then either read from within the zip file or unzip and read
it? I currently have an embedded text file that contains a list that is
read into an array. I'm always looking to save space. And I could reduce my
file size 75% if it was zipped! I have looked at the SharpZipLib web site,...

Is it faster to read through a file, without checking for end of
stream, and catch the EndOfStreamException or to do a check for
position vs. length after reading each line of a file? This is using a
BinaryReader.
I am going to setup a some performance tests but wanted to gather any
input from the learned groopies.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
