WCF: How to disable remote connections

Hi!

I'm developing a self-hosted WCF service running on client machines for
interprocess-data exchange using netTcpBinding.

For security reasons i'd like to configure the service in a way it only
accepts local connections.

Does anybody know how this can be done?

Thanks a lot in advance for any hint!

Greetings

Markus,

Make the service listen on 127.0.0.1 (http://localhost). That should make it
visible to local machine only.

Hi Tiago,

thanks for your reply but actually this is what i'm doing right now but the
service accepts remote connections from everywhere.

My endpoint address is net.tcp://localhost:9010/ServiceName.

I would be looking for something like binding the service to the local
loopback adapter to make it invisible for connections from outside the local
machine (or something else to achive the expected behavior).

Best Wishes

Markus

After discovering Cassini is crippleware I learned how to use Start Options to disable NTLM and enable support for the default web server on my XP Pro dev platform. Now all new projects are created as websites. I was happy until when out of the blue Cassini has re-enabled itself for one of the websites I am developing. Despite the Start Option settings I can't get rid of the Cassini pest and my website will not load from the IDE. Does...

The programming task is to run a simulation model, as a distributed computing model, in the background on 250 departmental computers. I intend to allocate work (per machine) into say "5-10 cpu second units" of repetitive work, stealing CPU cycles when/where I can. I have a service that uses WCF to host a remote object that performs the allocated work. My objective is to have the installed service run in the background and have no...

Hello everyone: I am looking for everyone's thoughts on moving large amounts (actually, not very large, but large enough that I'm throwing exceptions using the default configurations). We're doing a proof-of-concept on WCF whereby we have a Windows form client and a Server. Our server is a middle-tier that interfaces with our SQL 05 database server.

Hello, friends, Just wonder what is the difference between WCF services and web services? WCF services is a kind of web services, or, web services is a kind of WCF services? Or just two different implementation which basically do the same thing? Thanks.

Hello I have running WCF service (config below) hosting in just console application - because I've used InstanceContextMode.Single and ConcurrencyMode.Multiple and no Throttling I expect that 10 simultaneous requests will create 10 threads. Indeed it's true when calling service from the same machine - from localhost. However making remote call to exactly the same instance of service will cause ServiceHost to give _only_ 2 threads to...

Question 1: How do I turn off WCF security to get my apps out the door quickly? Question 2: Where can I find a step by step article/flowchart how to configure WCF security (the WCF books miss this point)? Background: I have a WCF client / WCF host pair running fine on the same machine. Metadata is offered both via basicHttp and netTcp. Services are offered via netTcp. When distributing the WCF client on the intranet, everybody (my...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development projectplanning, coding, testing, and deploymentwithout human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
