Hello all. I am involved in a project where we have a desire to improve our software testing tools, and I'm in charge of looking for solutions regarding the logging of our software (originating from embedded devices). Currently, we are using a heavyweight, proprietary log tool developed by another part of the company. This tool contains all "standard" logging functionality, but we also need to insert "debug" log points in the software of...

Hello, I need to write visual basic.net code to interface with a Mettler Toledo Shipping Scale that interfaces with a PC via USB or a serial port. I have seen example code on how to communicate via a serial connection (RS-232), but am not sure as the process if it is connected via USB. Is the USB port seen then as a COMM port, or is there a different type of connection a USB port creates that I would have to open? The scale will take as...

This is somewhat of a strange issue. Allow me to detail it as much as I can. We use the Blackboard Transaction System (BTS) for all students dinning services. The "ENVISION" server is Running Windows 2003 Server with Oracle 8+. All clients/registers are NCR Windows-based devices with the BTS system installed. They all come pre-imaged from Blackboard. They are spread across multiple VLANs within our robust (class B) network, spread across...

A friennd and I were talking about OS development last night and a few questions were raised that need some clarification. I did the usual search and it turned up the usual garbage, so I'm hoping someone here has an answer, or the link to an answer. Issue One: How does the operating system communicate with the hardware in protected mode? My friend said it was through the BIOS, however I've read numerous texts stating that BIOS interrupts...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
