invoke very long calculation process from asp.net

16 New Member
Hello,

I've ran into very interesting task and need some ideas how to implement it. I'm building web app, which has a page for importing data - importing involves very long calculations, which can't be optimized.
I'd like to start some kind of process right after file upload, and redirect user to another page, which shows calculation progress (page will refresh itself using javascript). Question is - what technology should I use? I thought about starting asynchronous webservice, but the question is - will I be able to store reference to that service in session (in order to get progress I need reference to that webservice instance)? Or maybe better idea would be implement windows service, which will be started from asp? Any suggestions welcome,

I am writing a simple cgi app and I would like it to print the header of an html page and "Running..." then print the results (which take over a minute to calculate) But... None of the page displays until the program finishes. Is there any way of flushing the first half of the page out before the calculation starts?

there seems to be a serious problem with allowing numbers to grow in a nearly unbounded manner, as int/long unification does: it hides bugs. most of the time, i expect my numbers to be small. 2**31 is good enough for most uses of variables, and when more is needed, 2**63 should do most of the time. granted, unification allows code to work...

I'm building an ASP page that has a lot of text and graphics. There is a calculation facility on the page. The user enters several numbers in a form and presses a button to see the calculated answer. The problem is this: when the user presses the Calculate button, the whole page is reloaded and, on a large page, this is very noticeable. ...

Hello: Currently, I am trying to solve a problem that requires the calculation of Airy functions for big arguments. Because Airy functions diverge rapidly for positive values, the results of the calculation quickly produces overflow (or underflow depending on which Airy function is used) for values of the argument greater than about 100...

If a DLL has been created to be thread-safe, and you create a wrapper class around it in C# that is non-static (i.e. you must instantiate objects from it), what are the implications of creating multiple objects from said wrapper class? There's only one DLL, so is it creating multiple instances of its functions when each object is making calls...

I have a worker thread running a POP3 mail retriever that raises a NewEmail event every time a message is retrieved. The NewMail handler updates a ListView in my form with a line representing the new message. I'm using Control.Invoke properly in the NewEmail handler, but I'm concerned about the worker thread sending more events than can be...

I need a thread to run a subroutine which updates my main form's progress bar. I've properly marshaled all UI updates to the main UI thread, and after the main thread starts the worker thread, it waits for the worker thread to complete by means of a while t.isAlive, sleep(0) mechanism. But when my worker thread calls my UpdateProgressBar...

http://www.tommti-systems.de/go.html?http://www.tommti-systems.de/main-Dateien/reviews/languages/benchmarks.html The above link shows that C# is 450% slower on something as simple as a nested loop. Is this because .NET is inherently slower or does the C# compiler merely produce code that is not as well optimized as the C++ compiler?

I need to update my UI from a Process or worker thread. I did some readinf and basically ended up adapting an MS example to fot my needs. It all made sense until I tried it :) My process makes calls to a Singleton logger class which in turn makes calls to a delegate to add items to a listbox in my WinForm. Here is the code that I have...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
