Is it a USB Card Reader? does the device appear as a hard drive in MyComputer? if it does then you can use standard IO methods and just treat the card as another hard drive. HTH.

What is the interface to the ID Card scanner? That will be the most important issue. Did it come with software? Does it act like a COM port?

You may neet to contact the company who manufactured the card reader to get an API that your software can use to connect-to/use the device.

Hi, I would like to start a new process and be able to read/write from/to it. I have tried things like... import subprocess as sp p = sp.Popen("cmd.exe", stdout=sp.PIPE) p.stdin.write("hostname\n") however, it doesn't seem to work. I think the cmd.exe is catching it.
