Options for quickly setting up a new hire developer machine

Hi,

I have a need to provide options for quickly setting up a developer machine.
When a new person is hired we loose a day or so of work just getting there
box ready for development.

I've seen ghost used for this before but does this cause any issue with
windows OS or MSDev?

What are the other options besides ghost?

Thanks,

Hi Sleazy,

Sorry, but this newsgroup mainly focuses on the .Net general programming
question, so I think you will not get much useful help for this question
here.

Thanks

Best regards,
Jeffrey Tan

Note: The MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues
where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 1 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex
project analysis and dump analysis issues. Issues of this nature are best
handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer by contacting
Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) at

I'm interested in setting up a web page where live data can be displayed in real-time on the web page. For example: I would like to display a (nice looking) graph of some data value versus time and have the graph update every second without the user having to do anything like hit a refresh button. The data to plot is readily available from an application running on the server - I can expose it in whatever way is needed (currently easily...

Needless to say I'm new to .Net. I'm trying to set Session variables from within a method within a class. (Name "Session" is not declared) is the message I get while typing in the code. I don't get this while entering code within an .aspx.vb file. Obviously I need to create and instance of some System.Web... object but I don't know what it is. Any ideas? Also by setting session variables from within the class and not sending back...

Hi, I've done a bit of reading on setting up an Isolated .NET environment for each of my developers. We all run Windows XP Pro, IIS and have local instances of SQL Server for development. I have a few problems that I am trying to work around. 1) All our sites are created using virtual paths. If I am to adopt the isolated model and develop on each developers machine, when you create

In the web.config file for my application, in the <sessionState> section I have set timeout="120" (in minutes), but session state variables in my application seem to be expiring in about 5 minutes. Any idea what could cause this? I have the mode="InProc" attribute set for <sessionState>. I know that some people have solved the problem of session variables timing out too quickly by changing that attribute, but I cannot use...

Hello all, I have one chance to get this right, as I'm nearing a release of a program. I've looked at the database settings, and so far, have set the following: * Unchecked 'Enable design changes for tables in datasheet view' * Unchecked 'Check for truncated number fields' (I would prefer the user NOT see #### in fields or columns that they shrink too far) * Unchecked 'Track Name AutoCorrect Info' * Set all Tables to 'SubDatasheet =...

FYI. You may never experience this but if you do, this may save some time debugging the problem. A person left his computer to do some other tasks and when he'd come back the links to the backend didn't exist. What happened was that the person had a new computer. In the Control Panel there's an option (at least for the Dell computer he's working on) for Power Options. The option "Turn Off Hard Disks" was not set to Never but to...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
