I hope Tony doesn't mind my opening a discussion of some issues on
his performance FAQ page here in the newsgroup. This is not meant as
criticism, at all, as I am not alleging error. I'm just asking about
a couple of things to open up the discussion to see what people have
to say about them.
1. BeginTrans/CommitTrans to improve performance: has anyone ever
done this? The KB article...

I am using graphics as backgrounds for forms, buttons, labels etc.
The question is: is it faster to load all graphics from files on app start
or
to use it embeded (places in editor during design).
Reason for my question is that application has 5mb, while without graphics
it has cca 400kb.
Graphic files (bmps) take about 200kb (in program, they are repeated many
times, ie almost all labels (around 200) have same background image)).
Also,...

I create a circle image form, drag and drop this image on the screen, if I drag
this circle fast to the right, the left part of the image is cut, looks to me the performance is not good as I expected, another issue is if I only create a windows form, then goto task manager, the memory usage is more than 15mb, is there any way can reduce the memory usage?

Hello,
I am creating an owner draw listbox for a windows application. It is all
working, except the performance is significantly slower than the standard
listbox. Basically what I have done is added two new properties (full
source below):
ChangeBackgroundMember = a bound data field which contains a boolean as
to whether this record should get a special background color
ChangeBackgroundColor = the color to use when the above...

Hi,
I am helping a musician friend of mine with his profile and I found a cool layout on Nas' MySpace page.
I changed some things and re-did the graphics and I basically popped my Image URLS where the ones were in Nas' profile code.
Something strange is happening tho. When I try to preview the layout, the entire profile is all covered up. My images show, but all the other elements have disappeared.
I am not sure where in the CSS I...

I am attempting to create a program in C# which part of it consists of one image fading to another. The best way I found this to work is from an example by Bob Powell on the thread http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread106125.html.
The issue is the performance of this code. A simple program that fades two images at 1280x1024 takes ~100% CPU. This is of course an issue. I'm hoping to see if anyone has a suggestion on how to accomplish this in...

Hi All,
I was wondering if any of you could help me with a very difficult problem that I am having.
I have an ASP site that works with an Oracle database using an ADODB connection. This connection is stored in a .dll file. This site had been working fine.
However recently we upgraded our Oracle database from 9i to 10g and ever since then we have been having serious performance problems with this site only.
The website works fine...

I am drawing simple graphics on a custom control which has a static
background image. When I try to rapidly (maybe 50 times per second)
redraw the graphics the computer can't keep up. There is no issue
when I just draw graphics on a control with a plain color as the
background but with an image set as the background it seems the
control redraws the background each time I refresh which makes its
performance poor. Is there a way to...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
