Crystal Reports in ASP.NET

3 New Member
Hello,

I am trying to add some reporting features to a quite large asp.net web application. I have created a webform that contains a few fields for filtering data to be displayed in a Crystal Report.

I have created a sample report that has a few parameters but I cannot get any data returned to me if those parameters don't have values.

Is there a way for Crystal Reports to ignore parameters that don't have a value specified?

Or alternatively, is there a way to just change the set of data (maybe with the use of a System.DataSet) that the report displays at run-time?

This is the code that i am using in order to pass the parameter values. If there is no value specified I use a different report that doesn't expect parameters simply because I get an error if I don't...

CrystalReportVi ewer1.Parameter FieldInfo.Clear ();
if (docNumTxt.Text .Trim().Length > 0)
{
CrystalReportVi ewer1.ReportSou rce = Server.MapPath( "ReportWithPara m.rpt");
ParameterFields ParamFields = CrystalReportVi ewer1.Parameter FieldInfo;
ParameterField p_docID = new ParameterField( );
p_docID.Name = "p_DOC";
ParameterDiscre teValue p_docID_Value = new ParameterDiscre teValue();
p_docID_Value.V alue = docNumTxt.Text;
p_docID.Current Values.Add(p_do cID_Value);
ParamFields.Add (p_docID);
}
else
{
CrystalReportVi ewer1.ReportSou rce = Server.MapPath( "ReportWithoutP aram.rpt");
}

Thanks in advance, I know my knowledge on the subject is sub-standard however I have a very important deadline coming up and I really need some help.

Hello again,

I believe that I have solved all my problems with Crystal Reports with a pretty easy solution. Instead of creating parameters for the reports i simply change the report query (using CR syntax) on runtime depending on what the user has filled in.

This is the code which I recommend to anyone that wants to filter the report data. It is the easiest way...

CrystalReportVi ewer1.Parameter FieldInfo.Clear ();

CrystalReportVi ewer1.ReportSou rce = Server.MapPath( "DocumentReport .rpt");

if (docNumTxt.Text .Trim().Length > 0)

{

CrystalReportVi ewer1.Selection Formula = "{DOCUMENT. DOC} = " + docNumTxt.Text. Trim() + "";

}

CrystalReportVi ewer1.RefreshRe port();

PS: Crystal Reports are by far the most frustrating reporting tool that I have ever used... I have learned other reporting tools for .NET e.g. telerik Reporting, within minutes...

I have a transaction log file where the DataSet table's Description column is actually delimited into "subcolumns" based upon the transaction id. I would like to parse these into separate fields for reporting purposes and am wondering if anyone knows if this is easily accomplished using the .NET version of Crystal Reports? For example, the description column may be reporting on a dataentry error as follows: TXNCODE: 1010001

I know this may not be the best NG for this, but I feel you guys know more about this than any of the other NGs. I need to build several simple reports (over 50 of them and they get their data from sql server) and I was wondering whish of these is the better tool .. We're still not sure if they'll be loaded from an existing VB6 application or if I'll have to make a separate module for them (in .Net). In general, which is the better tool?...

Hello all, I have created an ASP.NET website that uses Crystal Reports that works on the localhost (my PC), but when I copy it to the server it does not. The problem is ExcelUseConstantColumnWidth = False. On my PC when exporting a report, it works - columns are varible width to fit the field, from the server it does not - I get constant width columns. I suspect it is a DLL issue, but so far all my comparisons are coming out the same.

Hi I am interested in using crystal reports for the first time but have a few questions that someone maybe able to help with before I get started. The background to my query is that a client is interested in using crystal reports as a web based reporting tool to get data out of a sql server database and we have always created our own bespoke reporting tools but this particular client wishes to go down the crystal reports route. 1) We...

Hi, Just wondering what a good book is on visual studios 2008 ( or 2005 if no 2008 ) that teaches you how to properly use crystal reports with it. Or im assuming that as long as I can create a dataset and link it to a reportviewer than any Crystal Report book will do. I use vb.net but im assuming most books would show you vb and c

On reflection, you could possibly make the app a self extracting zip file which extracts the EXE and a settings file and then starts the app, then when you app closes, it can repack the settings file and itself into the exe. You would probably want a tool for this bit which could be in the zip too. So the app isnt single exe when running but when not running, it is. Just an idea for you to think about. Another option would possibly be to...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
