Beginning question about selecting software to set up my work environment.

Beginning question about selecting software to set up my work environment.

I have undertaken a website revision project after not programming for about 6 years. I am beginning to set up a work environment on my pc, and have questions about the software being used verses what could be the ideal software.

My background is that I am familiar with classic asp pages, not asp.net. I am also familiar MS Interdev (but am unable to locate my copy and cannot find a torrent file - is this an archaic program now?). The last thing that I'll mentioned is that I prefer to have a debugging capabilities.

So the current website uses Dreamweaver 8.0, IIS 6.0, and MSSQL 2000. Question...

Given my background, what software would you use to set up a work station?

Thanks sincerely,
Breck

Hi brekj,
Are you familiar with .Net?
If you are, then you can have easy integration with MSSQL , it needs IIS, but if you get a copy of visual express/studio you wont need it for testing.
And yes, visual studio has an excellent debugging tool (you will love it)
I am not aware with the little older technologies (classic asp, interdev...etc)

Good luck, cheers

Beside its an opensource and supported by community, what's the fundamental differences between PostgreSQL and those high-price commercial database (and some are bloated such as Oracle) from software giant such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and Sybase? Is PostgreSQL reliable enough to be used for high-end commercial application? Thanks

My goal is to study (in the RMS sense) and familiarize myself with some OSS code, until I reach the point at which I can make non-trivial modifications to it. The class of applications I have in mind are almost always written in C and run on Unixes. Historically, I have used a terminal emulator, vi, and gcc/gdb for this type of project, but would like to become more productive and take advantage of the facilities provided by an IDE. ...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
