VB.NET Remote Execution or Stop and Start Windows Service

Hello fellow programmers. I am writing a desktop application that will allow our IT department to execute commands on remote computers. I had originally found a post that has a two part program that was working nicely

for half our computers. It seems that when the remote portion (which is a service) is running other programs will get hung up. We have to go into Services and Stop the service. Once this is done, all other programs execute normally.

I would like to ask for some assistance for one of two possiblities.

#1. Is it possible to program turning on and off the service on the remote computer.

#2. Is there a tutorial or something similar to create a "one sided" remote execution program.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello All, I have a windows service on several remote machines that gather data and load it to SQL 2000. The service on the remote machine runs at a desirable frequency and gathers the data. I'm using DTS on a central server to bring the data back. The DTS package has it's own schedule and all works well. But now I want to "on demand" runs the service on a particular machine to

Dear all, I built a Web Form application to start and stop a Windows Service remotely. I successful tested the application on Windows 2000 server + IIS. I must include the ASPNET user to the Administration group (on server side) to have the necessary authorization to start a Windows Service (I don't understand why "Power User" rights are not enough to do the same thing) Although I'm able to start a service using windows 2000 server...

Dll written in VB.NET 2003 to start a command remotely. You can : - launch the command and wait until it's finished. (Ex. 1) - launch the command providing a timeout in seconds, it will wait until it's finished. If the command didn't terminate within the timeout, the command is killed. (Ex. 2) - launch the command and continue your processing after the command has been started remotely (Ex. 3).

I need to be able to start and stop a service on another computer on the network. But I cannot connect to the other computer using my standard user credentials. I have a separate login for that for which I use Remote Desktop to connect to the other machine. The other machine is a test server where my Windows Service application is running. It is an inconvenience to have to connect through Remote Desktop just to start and stop the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
