Writing to windows registry using XML....

Dear All,

I have query regarding the registry.

Is it possible to write it to windows registry using the XML?
if yes then what is the API or tag used to write it.

I am just a beginner in XML.

thanks in advance.

Umesh

Why do you want to use XML when dealing with the Windows registry? It is
not based on XML so I don't see that XML helps.
The .NET framework 2.0 has this class
<URL:http://msdn2.microsoft .com/en-us/library/Microsoft.Win32 .Registry.aspx>
to access the registry.

Recently I was looking for remote management tools and came across "Windows Management Instrumentation". There is a python interface available: http://tgolden.sc.sabren.com/python/wmi.html I was amazed how easy it became to access just about anything under the hood (later versions of NT, 2000, XP) using a couple of lines of code! If you have privileged access to remote computers you can interrogate them as well. My attempts to modify...

Hello. I'm looking for any information I can get about writing values to keys in the Windows registry when the value type is a multi-string (ie. REG_MULTI_SZ). When I get the value of a multi-string value using winreg functions, I get a tuple with tuple being a list, and tuple a number. If I try to write such a tuple back into a multi-string value, I get the following exception: ValueError: Could not convert the data to the...

Sorry to anyone who read this post, but in case it's useful to anyone: Further experiments reveal that while a tuple comes back if you read a multi-line string, you set the value using a list (not a tuple). That's sensible and I don't know why this didn't occur to me before I posted. Thanks -----Original Message----- From: Pat Blair

I was recently cautioned against storing an ADO.NET Connection String in the Windows Registry because access to the Windows Registry would be serialized and therefore impact scalability. I have been able to find reasons to not use the Registry for storing Connection Strings, but the reasons given seem to be security-related. Does anyone know if there are performance-related reasons for NOT storing Connection Strings in the Windows...

I cannot write to windows registry using ASP .NET account. I have made a key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software and granted full access to ASP .NET account, but still got "Requested registry access is not allowed." Any idea why?

When programming reads of the Windows Registry, do the registry keys and values need to be localized for international use? For example, do I need to convert the key name L"\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows" into Japanese, Korean, etc., for use in those markets? Thanks experts!

Hi. This may be a very stupid question but I'll leave you to judge it ;) I know there were lots of questions about this but none of the answers suits me. I'm wondering how to get the BINARY type data from the registry and how to display it as hex in a way I'm showing below. Let's say I use this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion \Prefetcher The value of LastDiskLayoutTime is: 6A C7 49 ED 50 5F C7 01

Hi All, Did an export from the registry (see below). This is what I need to have written to the registry programmatically from my VB.NET utility. As you can see it is multi-line and binary data. Had no problems with the other entries written to the registry using: Dim shell as Object shell.RegWrite(strRegDir, strSigName, "REG_EXPAND_SZ") ----------------------------------------

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
