Can't write to windows registry using ASP .NET account

I cannot write to windows registry using ASP .NET account.
I have made a key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACH INE\Software and granted full access to
ASP .NET account, but still got "Requested registry access is not allowed."

Any idea why?

I am trying to install a windows service written in .net 2003 on my Windows 2000 computer. I have followed the walkthru given in msdn but the service fails to install with 'requested registry access is not allowed' (using both InstallUtil or by creating an installer). I have tracked the registry access failure using RegMon and found that it fails on

Is there a specific process or permissions that must be granted to get a .NET (framework 1.4) Window Service to run properly on a Windows 2003 Server? I built a Windows Service to start two local programs (Putty and Pageant) located on a Win 2003 Server. The service installs but doesn't start the Putty / Pageant programs properly when using any user ID except my own. Why will it work with my User ID? I install the Windows Service on a Win...

Hi All, I'm writing a Windows Service app using C#. I need to read some configuration settings before the service starts up. These settings will be used by the service in its operation. Question is, which is the best way to store & retrieve the settings? I'm thinking of storing it in the registry in HKLM\Software\ServiceName and access it using the Registry class in the "public ServiceName()" method. I'm instructing the service...

I have a DTS Package I am able to execute successfully from a Windows Form application, but I cannot get this to work from an ASP.NET Web Service, although the Web Service impersonates the same user the Windows Form runs under. When I run the Web Service, I make a call to "System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name" and this verifies the user-id is the same account I am logged onto when I successfully run my Windows...

G'Day, I've been trying to find an answer to this for a long time now and haven't been making any headway. I have a maintenance application that runs a defrag, checkdisk, windows updates etc in VB.NET 2008 Express (.Net 3) and as a part of that the application is to reset the username so the user doesn't have to remember their particular username (you'd be surprised how many users don't know their username). This is even more of a problem...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
