Installing multiple services in a deployment project

Hi,

I am trying to install 2 Windows services in one VS.NET 2005
Deployment Project. I added custom actions for Install, Rollback, and
Uninstall.

My problem is that if the Install method of the first service assembly
throws an exception, the installer attempts to call the Rollback
method on BOTH assemblies, so I get an error saying "Could not find
file C:\Program Files\...\secon dAssembly.Insta llState", because it
never called Install on the second assembly, and therefore never
created a state file.

I have tried all sorts of things in the Condition property for the
rollback custom action, including "Installed" . Installed always
returns false, which means that if the opposite situation happens and
the 2nd assembly throws, then rollback will never get called on the
1st assembly (which is even worse, because then it gets left in a
state where you can't install OR uninstall).

I have also tried setting environment variables in my Installer
classes to indicate that Install() has been called, but the installer
program does not see them, I think because it runs on a separate
process.

Any ideas?

List I've made a .NET windows service in C++, then I added an installer to the solution. I added the 'Project Output' from my .NET service as a package for the installer to install however it does not install my program as a service on the client machine. Is there something special I need to do? Shouldn't the 'Project Output' show the installer that I have made a service and then install the thing properly?

I have a package built in C#.Net. I have the deployment package all set. However, I have a file that needs to be installed in the project but I don't want it be overwritten by an older version of the file if a user updates it before another user runs the install. i.e.. Customer 1 installs to a network drive k Customer 1 updates file X.xml Customer 2 also installs to a network drive k (same network) Customer 2 needs the updates that...

Hi there, in the past when we have written services with C++, we used to install them by running the .exe with command line parameters for install/uninstall. Is this still possible with .Net? If this is not possible, do I need to take the InstallUtil.exe with me to install on customer site, or can I create a deployment package to do this for me? Thanks.

Hi all, at the moment i am developing an app which is sort of an interface to copy data from one database to another and it shall run as a service. As there are several databases the app must be installed and run in multiple instances with the configuration data (database, login, etc.) stored in an app.config file. Up to now I was concerned with Windows CE apps only so both running an app as service and running multiple instances of...

Installing Merge Modules from C# Windows Form Application (not using a setup and deployment project) Hi, Currently, we have an InstallShield project that creates a setup.exe that only installs 20 or so merge modules. It does nothing else. We then have our own custom, C# Windows Form application that installs our software applications. It does this by copying files, creating registry keys, etc.

I currently have a Windows Service that runs Transactions that are very Processor/Memory Intensive. I have a requirement to deploy multiple instances of the Web service on the Same server. Each Instance needs to run in its own process. My current approach to this is to put all the logic into a separate "Worker" assembly and install it into the GAC. I'm then going to create Multiple Windows Services (i.e. MyService1, MyService2 etc..)...

I have broken up my web site into smaller web site projects. When I look at the precompiled files, it always has the virtual directory in them ie: <preserve resultType="3" virtualPath="/Security/DefaultLogin.aspx" hash="fde4916e6" filehash="ffffe84d717a4765" flags="110000" assembly="App_Web_-xo1n4yg" type="ASP.defaultlogin_aspx"> <filedeps> <filedep name="/Security/DefaultLogin.aspx" /> </filedeps> </preserve>

We have a service written in C#. The generated code "hardcodes" the service name into the exe. We have a situation where we would like to allow multiple Windows Services to be defined. These would differ by the command-line parameters passed to the .exe to give it a different configuration. Is there a way to do this? --

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
