Reading File with COM Object

7 New Member
Hi!
In my C++ application I use a COM Object (written in C#). When I try to call one of the methods (that tries to read settings from configuration file) I get a nasty error -0x7c812a5b (unfortunately it's hard to debug COM objects).

My c# method looks as follows:
public string ReadConfigValue ()
{
System.Configur ation.Configura tion config =
ConfigurationMa nager.OpenExeCo nfiguration(Con figurationUserL evel.None);
AppSettingsSect ion appSettingSecti on =
(AppSettingsSec tion)config.Get Section("connec tionStrings");
string strConfig = appSettingSecti on.SectionInfor mation.GetRawXm l();
return strConfig;
}
My c++ code looks as follows:
char * strConfigConten t =_com_util::Con vertBSTRToStrin g(_com_ptr->ReadConfigValu e());

I think there may be some problems with treads during reading a content of a file (because when I delete a section "connectionStri ngs" I get an empty string).

How can I solve this problem??

I assume this is a BSTR?? Yes?

_com_ptr->ReadConfigValu e()
The C++ call looks OK if that is a BSTR. I assume you delete the return from ConvertBSTRToSt ring() at some later point.

The rest is in C# so I am moving this to the.NET forum for now. If the C# looks OK, then a .NET moderator needs to move this back to the C++ forum.

Hi, In the code below (not pretty I know but it's an early version :-P) I'm having problems reading the data object back in. If I move the reading code to immediately after the section where it is written ( commented out in code) then it reads in OK. However, when I move the code to the right place ( as shown here) it throws an IO exception. Both the Filter class and it's constituent class implement Serializable and it would seem the...

Hi, everyone, I'm a Python novice and would love some tips on how I should perform the following task: I'd like to have my Python script read objects (using their constructors) and terminate gracefully when an EOF is encountered. My first attempt looked like this: # This is enclosed in a 'try' block file = open(...) while 1:

Hi, I have an extension in which a file object is created in python and passed down to a c extension which attempts to read from it or write to it. Writing to the file pointer seems to work okay, but reading from it results in EBADF. It also causes python to crash on exit. I've attached the minimal (I think) c code, python code, build script, build log, and run log. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am trying to read an image from MS Access DB based on the following article: http://www.vbdotnetheaven.com/Code/Sept2003/2175.asp The article author is using PictureBox for windows application, while I am doing for web. I can only find Image from web forms control and HTML control. This may be the root cause of my problem. For read button, I converted his VB to the C#. But the compiler complains:

OK I've been staring at this code all day and still with everything I have tried I cannot figure out two problems I am having. Once is why the space limit for the directory I create in the code fails. Second, why the data reader is reading every other record. Here is all of the source code for my little application followed by the contents of the log file that it dumps out:...

I've got a XML file I read using a file_get_contents and turn into a simpleXML node every time index.php loads. I suspect this is causing a noticeable lag in my page-execution time. (Or the wireless where I'm working could just be ungodly slow-- which it is.) Is reading a file much more resource/processor intensive than, say, including a .php file? What about the act of creating a simpleXML object? What about the act of checking the...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
