exe calling WS only works with VS running.

I have a strange issue here. I created an exe that calls a Web Service that
I also created. When I run in debug mode the WS is called and does its
thing. When I run in release mode (through Visual Studio) the WS is called
and does its thing. I then created the install for the project, installed it
and ran it. The WS gets called only if Visual Studio is running. Why would
this be? The executable is in release mode and has the config file that
points to the WS (localhost) and if I shut down Visual Studio the program
keeps running but the WS calls are ignored.

Platform - WinXP Pro sp2
Visual Studio 2005 Pro with SP1

Thanks,

David

First of all, I'm suspicious of the WS calls "being ignored". Are you
catching exceptions correctly? Are you sure you're not getting an exception
and not reporting it where you can see it?

I suspect you'll find you have the WS configured to use the VS development
server. I'm not sure that runs without VS.

Hi, I've got a question about whether there are any issues with directly calling attributes and/or methods of a threaded class instance. I wonder if someone could give me some advice on this. Generally, the documentation suggests that queues or similar constructs should be used for thread inter-process comms. I've had a lot of success in doing that (generally by passing in the queue during the __init__ of the thread) and I can see...

I've got a script in an ASP page that is supposed to extract certain files from a zip file, move them, create a new zip with the moved files and then make a self-extracting archive out of the new zip file. I'm doing this using wshShell.Exec, the WinZip command line tool and zip2exe.exe from the pkware suite (because WinZip's command line doesn't support creating self-extracting archives and for historical compatibility reasons). This is...

I have an ASP application that calls a COM function to create a custom report as an Excel file. This works in a synchronous fashion, as long as the report does not take too long to create. If that happens, the session times out and we run into other kinds of problems. I have, in other cases, executed a stored procedure asynchronously (thanks to a tip from this group) thru ADO. I'm wondering if ASP provides some way of executing a...

Is it possible to have a stored procedure in database A while calling it from database B and have it manipulate the tables in database B (whatever the calling database happens to be)? We have a large-scale app that uses many complex stored procedures, and as of now, we're copying the SPs to every new database that is created, and it will soon become a nightmare for propagating updates and fixes. We'd like to keep a master set of the SPs...

I'm trying to call a batch file that I've built using the FileSystemObject and CreateObject("Wscript.Shell"), oShell.Run... in an asp script. Naturally, I can get the script to work from a command line but not from a browser. The page does not throw an error but the oShell.Run... portion of the script doesn't run. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm running into an Invalid Cast Exception on an ASP.NET application that runs fine in my development environment (Win2K server running IIS 5) and a test environment (also Win2K server running IIS 5), but fails on IIS 6 running on a Win2003 server. The web uses Pages derived from a custom class I wrote (which itself derives from Page) to provide some common functionality. The Page_Load handler the failing webpage starts out like this: ...

Hi, I have created a Java webservice which runs in IBM WebSphere appserver. I take the WSDL-file and create a VS.NET WinForm application and calls the service running on my PC and everything works fine. So I deploy the webservice on a remote machine (Linux box) and I get an error when calling the service. BUT: I can retrieve the WSDL and make a webreference in my VS.NET project, so obviously I (or more correct: My VS.NET project) am...

Hi, We're working in VS 2005, Team edition, if it makes any difference at all (should be up-to-date and all that, but could not guarantee it is 100%). We've implemented a simple generic wrapper parser under C++/CLI. It's a basic project created under Visual C++/CLR - Class Library - and it's pretty much what it is, just one /clr compiled class, fully CLR, no C++ native types or processing, nothing, just managed all the way. The reason...

Main problem is that it is not showing the editor which is called on the Get_Content.php. in Main Page. I have included the js files in the head section. all the files are on the same directory.

I have a .Net Application(64 bit) calling a 32 bit COM+. What is the best way to achieve this? Basically I have got a webpart dll, which is compiled for any CPU and IIS running on 64 bit. All the webparts works fine but the webpart which are accessing legacy COM+ methods fails to get loaded. To test this further I created a small DotNet Sample App which loads COM+method. If the Sample app is comiled for 32 everything works on 64 bit...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
