Notify Icon Functionality

1 New Member
Hi
I have an idea but not quite sure how to implement it.

I have a skeleton of a plug in architecture. My plans are to have the host use a notify icon and place it in the system tray. The plug ins can then be able to change the event handler of the notify icon to some method specified in the plug in itself...

For example, say if i create two plug ins, one that does copying and pasting, and another that adjusts the volume. If the users chooses to use the copying and pasting plug in, whenever the user double clicks on the tray icon, it would just copy a date to a clipboard and do nothing else. When the user chooses to use the volume adjusting plug in, this time when the user double clicks on the tray icon, it would instead show a volume control for example.

How this gives some insight on the functionality i'm trying to achieve... Would appreciate any advice or suggestions.

I am coding in C#

To my mind you have a skeleton but lack a design. As the developer it your task to select the design and begin implementing IMO. If you have problems along the way post them. Have you started the project?

Hi, I have a C# program that changes the notifyIcon during the program. What I have noticed is that sometimes when the program is over the old icon will still be in the system tray. But when i move over the icons in the taskbar the taskbar will immediately update itself and clear the old icon away. I was just wondering if this is normal or if I am supposed to "force" an update of the taskbar system tray icons somehow?

I have an interesting problem with my Notify Icon. I cannot get it to display when I start a web service. I have no problems when I test the software on a Windows program. But the Icon will not display for the service. My service utilizes an Asynchronous Callback to load a queue. There is other background processing based on time (different thread). I have heard that the Notify Icon may have issues when the thread that instanctiates...

i'd like to create an application which would run in the background, & there'd be an icon in the system tray (can use the notify icon). But HOW can i make the form invisible. What i'd like to do is, when the exe is run, ONLY the icon should appear in the system tray & nothing else. & if necessary the user can click on the icon & there'd be a menu to load the necessary forms. How can i do this.

Hi there, I have an app whose structure is as follows: a module calls a custom application context containing a notify icon and associated context menu, which in turn acts upon an instance of another class, I'll call Class1 (i.e. accesses its startup, shutdown, print reports methods). Basically, Class1 manages communication between two other classes: one is a class that listens for a socket connection from another application and the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
