I am a newcomer to databases and am not sure which DBMS to use. I have
a very simplified knowledge of databases overall. I would very much
appreciate a (simplifed) message explaining the advantages and
disadvantages of both programs.
Many Thanks

OS = WinXP & Win98. Access = A97 & AXP
Q1) Where can I find the VFP ODBC driver at Microsoft.
I have been working developing an app in Access that will link to some
DOS FoxPro tables.
I have been doing my development work in A97 but the folks have AXP at
their site. As near as I can tell, the FoxPro driver has been discarded
from A97 and replaced with ODBC in A2K onward

Hello, I've got two questions. Im writing an Access 2000 database to
collect data from multiple Visual Foxpro Databases, total some figures,
save the data into a table for archiving purposes, and be able print out a
report. Im connecting to the Foxpro Databases using ODBC through VB version
6 and my Visual Foxpro Driver is dated at 12/7/1999 version 6.01.
1.When connecting to a particular Foxpro database my access program
completely...

Hello,
Since it is the first time I'm posting in these groups, I believe a
(short) introduction of myself would not be a bad thing.
I am mainly a support engineer, not a programmer. I do have some
experience with Java and LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) but don't
consider me one of those boring OS advocates please. ;-)
I also have done a little bit with Visual Basic (and GwBasic in a long
forgotten past) and nowadays my job involves...

Hello all
I'm going to try and be brief with my question, please tell me if I have the
wrong group.
We are querying transaction data from a DB3 database application. The dates
are stored as text fields. Each date for example 10/31/03 or October 31st
2003 is stored as 10/31/A3 in the system. My reasoning for this is because
they couldn't solve their Y2K problem or this is their solution to it. All
dates prior to 2000 are stored...

These seem to work. I'm posting them now before I'm done with
them before I start messing them up with specifics to my database.
Any comment is welcome. However, I've no intention of publishing
production quality code or documentation, these are my notes
and I've used published them here in the event that
somebody finds them useful.
Postgresql developers might note the hackery required to accomodate
COPY's insertion of escape...

Hello. I have app written in C# that we are testing. The executable is
shared on our network. The method we are testing is a call to a foxpro
table. The call is made to query the table, then fill a datable with the
resultset. All is fine when I run the executable from my machine. However,
when our test user runsthe same executable, the app errors out when
attempting to read from the foxpro table. I have logged where the user...

Hello everyone,
My company uses a FoxPro database right now as an interface
and a database. For our situation, I have come to the conclusion that
it would be a better choice for us to move to an SQL server of some
sort. I have been given the task of overseeing the overhaul on the
program. I am paranoid about security and uptime, and so is the CEO and
there is more and more demand for the company to get on the interactive
internet. I'd...

Hello,
I’ve been given the task of importing .dbf files from a very old version of Visual FoxPro (version 2.1) into Access (2003). When I import the data straight to Access it errors with:
External table is not in the expected format. (Error 3274)
I’ve tried the following but it did not work:
“To import data from a FoxPro database, use the Microsoft Visual FoxPro ODBC driver. To do so, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
