adding custom properties to a user object

2 New Member
Anyone ever ran into the issue of adding custom properties to a user? Here's a code snippet i wrote:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. DirectoryEntry newUser = deContainer.Children.Add("CN=" + username, "User");
  2. newUser.Invoke("Put", new object[] { "sAMAccountName", "testuser" });
  3. newUser.Invoke("Put", new object[] { "sn", "user1" });
  4. newUser.Invoke("Put", new object[] { "testprop1", "will work" });   //custom property
  5. newUser.CommitChanges();
  6. newUser.Close();
  7.
This code makes the user fine if I remove the custom property. When I leave it in, and it tries to commit, I get the exception:
The specified directory service attribute or value does not exist. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007200A)

I'm uncertain as to what exactly is wrong. I've search around to find nothing odd about the syntax. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks...

Hey all... I posted this in the vs.net ide group too, but people are not answering, so I figured that it might be more appropriate here. I'm not sure if I'm adding a designer to my code properly. I'm only adding it to the tree node, where each custom tree node is then added to a normal tree control I'm trying to get an add-in to interact with the property window in VS.Net. Basically, I created a tool window containing a custom tree...

Project: ---------------------------- I am creating a HTTPS File Transfer App using ASP.NET and C#. I am utilizing ActiveDirectory and windows security to manage the permissions. Why reinvent the wheel, right? Everything so far is working well with the Active Directory. The problem I am having is with adding File Permissions to a directory. I am currently using some code courtesy of "Willy Denoyette "

Trying to figure out the technique which should be used to add rows to a datagrid. I am thinking that I would want an "Add" button on the footer, but I am not quite sure how to do that. Is that the best method? Do you have a sample of how to do this?

It seems that the ASP.NET Microsoft team didn't think about this!! The profilemanager class has the following methods: - DeleteInactiveProfiles. Enables you to delete all profiles older than a specified date. - DeleteProfile. Enables you to delete a profile associated with a specified username. - DeleteProfiles. Enables you to delete a set of profiles. - FindInactiveProfilesByUserName. Returns a collection of ProfileInfo

I have made some user controls with custom properties. I can set those properties on instances of my user controls, and I have programmed my user control to do useful visual things in response to how those properties are set. I want to be able to do two other things: a) add User control instances to my page, filling in the place of placeholder controls, and b) programmatically setting custom properties on those dynamically spawned...

I am coding an application in VB.Net 2005 where objects of a custom class are saved/retrieved into/out of a DB. As my application moves into its 2nd version I have to add new methods and properties into my custom class. How does one go about adding new methods and/or properties to a custom class and then updating existing objects of that class w/out breaking everything? Ex: Pull existing object from DB -> Convert to new version of...

This is NOT a complete OO perl tutorial However I thought it could be beneficial to explain some of the basic concepts, and allow some users to simplify the software design process. I have found it to be extremely useful and beneficial to create my own "custom" modules. It (among many other things) allows you to type less. Or to make your keystrokes matter more, however you look at it. (If you do even look at it.) Things the reader...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
