Suggestions on Self Learn books for ASP.NET and VB.NET

20 New Member
Any suggestions on self learn books for vb.net and asp.net. I pretty much know the majority of the basics for windows, but I haven't done much web based programming yet. Also database programming with ado.net is what I need to get a better understanding of.

I've taken the beginning vb.net programming training and much of the info was a review. I think I"m at another level in my programming , although the training courses many times are far from the real-life work you will do.

Any suggestions on books?

Thanks in advance

I haven't found a good VB or ASP .NET book yet.
I'd suggest checking out the MSDN Library for resources.

Its what got me through my .NET courses at college :)

Thanks! It's just that .NET is so new, it's hard to get detailed explanations of why certain things are done certain ways. Many times you're told how to do something but not exactly why.

I've taken a few training classes and have a couple of books, but the examples in those classes and books are hardly related to everyday situations. So much simpler.

Hi All, I'm about to begin studying for the MCDBA certification and I'm wondering what books people would recommend? The following gets a good review, so I'm planning on purchasing it: MCSA/MCSE/MCDBA Self-Paced Training Kit: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 System Administration, 70-228, Second Edition

Hi. I posted yesterday asking if C# lived up to the hype. Thus far the feedback has been all positive. (Thanks.) Can anyone suggest GOOD books for learning C# and the Visual Studio .NET IDE? If there is a book that covers both, that would be great. Also, is it necessary for me to learn a lot about the .NET framework that wouldn't also...

First, I would like to apologize in advance if this is not the appropriate place to post this message; of the .NET-related newsgroups I found, this seemed to be the most general. If the information I'm requesting is covered in a FAQ somewhere, please point me to it, and I'll be happy to read it. A group of friends and I, mostly professional...

Hi All, I'm just looking for some suggestions on a good book that will cover the C++ standard well. I Know C (quite) well, and learnt this language by reading as much source code as possible and using Herbert Schildt's C The Complete Reference (4th Edition) as a reference where needed. I was thinking about purchasing C++: The Complete...

I have been an HTML guy for 8 years or so, but only last year started working with PHP. I dabbled in Perl and then moved to PHP after completing a couple projects in Perl. I'm thankful I did that, as I'm sure you all know. I've got a pretty common working knowlege of PHP and using it with mySQL. I can do most anything I need to do, but I...

Hi, I am currently using Visual Basic.Net "How to Program" by Deitel, Deitel and Nieto. Initially, going trough it at a rapid pace, skipping most exercises, did not give me enough footing. Trying to do most exercises works best, but most exercises have no answers on the accompanying CD, which is very frustrating and slows me down too much....

I am looking for VB.Net books which provide a lot of exercises (preferrably with all the answers worked out on CD). In earlier reactions Ken Tucker and M.Posseth recommended a few books. Thanks for both of your reactions. Ken included the links, so it is clear which books he recommended (I will get them!) M.Posseth recommended "the...

Hi, I'm a C programmer of (I'd like to think) intermediate skill and experience, able to throw most things together quite happily in C. I'd like to get to the point of being able to legitimately use the word "expert" on my CV. Does the group have any suggestions for books targeted at the intermediate programmer, rather than beginning? ...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...
