I have implemented an ISAPI filter to authenticate user download based on SQL
data. It works great for all high speed users but it fail after 20-30 mins
download on modem (yes, 56k!) user. The error message on the client side is
"The connection with the server has been reset".
I have tried increasing Server.ScriptTimeout to 2 hours also Session timeout
to very long. I've set this on both the site property and explicitly run

I'm using VB.NET 2003.
Device manager reports that my USB Modem is using COM 6.
For what it is worth the manufacturer has failed over a period of two years
to supply example code or methods.
The example program "VB.NET How-To: Using the Comm Port" does not dectect
COM 6.

I'm in the process of switching a older computer from Windows XP to Ubuntu (7.10).
I was wondering if there are any drivers for this particular modem, although I have heard that linux drivers for modems are rare.

I lost the mother board in a storm and had a tech replace it under warenty,
but after he left I tried to go on line and the message no modem located came
up. I've tried to get back with the support people but it's almost
impossible. It's a Compac with xp home. What if anything can I do? I'm about
ready to take it back and stick.................!!!!!!!

Recent events have shown me that HTTP file downloads can be very unreliable
while FTP downloads remain rock solid.
In HTML I can provide a link on a page that starts an FTP download from
another server.
ASP.NET restricts me to providing a file from the current webspace and not
higher in the directory tree than my current location.
