I have developed a Windows Forms application with C#. On the windows form I have a master list box with the names of people the user can select from and when selected it calls a Select in SQL server to gather the appropriate information. It is then populated onto a multi-tab portion on the right of the screen. On the 3rd tab I have 2 multi-select listboxes. The problem is on the first time I go to the tab for the first name the 2...

Using multiple System.Timers.Timer objects in a Windows Service for performing multi-thread activities in a periodic fashion. Timers are AutoReset=false, to only have a single timer execution thread running at any given moment. Typically, timers will have an interval of 5 to 15 minutes. Conditionally, the interval may be set to 1 second (1000 ms) before the next call to Timer.Start(). Here is the question: if the interval is one...

I've installed several different versions of Python across several different versions of MS Windows, and not a single time was the Python directory or the Scripts subdirectory added to the PATH environment variable. Every time, I've had to go through and add this by hand, to have something resembling a usable Python installation. No such problems on Linux, whether it be Mandrake/Mandriva, Fedora Core, or Kubuntu. So why is the Windows...

To demonstrate my problem, I have a very simple VB Windows application. It has a text box that is used to display a counter, a button to reset the counter, and a timer that increments the counter every second. I remote desktop to the computer hosting this application and run the application. It starts up and displays the counter incrementing every second. If I disconnect the network cable between the two computers for 10 seconds and...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
