I have a com dll that takes ASP Application object as one of the parameters and performs processing. We are doing a brute force conversion of our application from asp to asp.net.
We have created a RCW (run time callable wrapper) for the com object and have instantiated it, now when we call this specific method passing the Application object as a parameter, I receive the following compiler error -:

object is created successfully and the objects method can be called after
loading the object however upon passing it back to the calling class it

Hi,
I am designing an application where to preserve the hierachy and for
code substitability, I need to pass an array of derived class object in
place of an array of base class object. Since I am using vector
class(STL), the compiler does not allow me to do this.
I do realize there is a pitfall in this approach(size of arrays not
matching etc), but I wonder how to get around this problem. I have a
class hierachy with abstract base...

Hello,
If I have a few simple classes to represent Entities such as Customers and
Orders.
What is the proper way to pass information to the Data Access Layer?
1) Pass the actual ENTITY to the Data Access Layer method
-or-
2) Pass some kind of a unique id to the Data Access Layer method

Hi,
In my application I get lots of different sorts of information from
databases. As such, a lot of information is stored in DataSets and DataTable
objects.
Up until now, I have been passing around chunks of data in
DataTables/DataSets, simply because that was the format that they were in
when the data was taken from the database. Now, I know this maybe a pretty
silly question with a standard "it depends" answer, but I'm going to...

Hi,
I am trying to develop a COM+ Server Application, using C#.Net, that accepts
a ListDictionary object in one of its method arguments; but when the client
makes a call to this method there raises an error saying "Insufficient state
to deserialize the object. More information is...

Hi all,
I am currently writing an application in VB.NET that has a lot of controls (treeviews/listviews/labels and so forth) that represent "things" that need to be draggable from place to place, including between controls and windows.
In the past when I've implemented Drag and Drop in other projects, I've always passed the item being dragged (for example the listviewitem or the treenode) to the DoDragDrop and then retrieved it in the...

Hello.
I had a class that worked, but I knew wasn't designed correctly from an OO
point of view, so I changed it so it was more like I thought it 'should' be,
and now it doesn't always work. Works most of the time, but not always.
At first, I had an object variable declared in a class, and everything
worked fine.
Then, I figured I should really have 2 classes- one wrapping the other. I
need my object in both classes, so I passed it as...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
