This is the simplified structure of my website in IIS :
c:\Website
-------> Home (normal directory)
-------> Engine (*virtual directory* but not an application!)
I made the Engine (which contains code I use in many sites and thus is
centralised) not an application because I use application variables within
this directory.

When I try to create a new web application in VS Studio .NET 2003 at a
simple default location eg: http://localhost/WebApplication1 I get the
following error:
Visual Studio .NET cannot create or open the application. The
likeliest problem is that required components are not installed on the
local Web Server. Run Visual Studio .NET setup and add the Web
Development component.
Now in IIS6 my default website points at c:\websites which...

I'm currently using the FileUpload control to allow people to upload
files to my website. This all works fine, as long as I'm going to a
physical path on my server.
However, I need to allow people to upload to a virtual directory. The
directory may or may not exist on the same server as the Web site.

Been stumped for many, many hours trying to create a web service project. I
greatly appreciate any help.
I get an error everytime I try to use the Visual Studio.NET wizard to create
a Web Service. The error is:

Rather new to this....
I've created a new web site using VS 2005. It's created the files under my
"documents and settings" area and the URL to this site is
http://localhost:3066/website1
I have a separate physical directory structure that I have to use within
this website (and others). I therefore need to add this as a virtual
directory.

I've come across a very weird problem. Virtual includes work on all my ASP pages on the entire website, including those in subdirectories, yet they won't work on a particular page I created, even though the virtual include statement is copy & pasted exactly as it appears on the working pages.
What would cause virtual includes to work in one page on a website, but not on another?

I have a C# class GeneralUtilities.cs , which many of my aspx.cs files
will refer to. So, I've put it under the App_Code folder and compiled
it to library using csc /target: library from the DOS console.
I can use objects of type GeneralUtilities in any aspx.cs file in my
web application without any problem if only I make my web application
folder a virtual directory.
If I don't make it a virtual directory, the compiler complains...

Can anyone clarify what the difference between these two choices is
when developing website? I have IIS installed too, so I can pick this
too if there is a reason.
From the point of view of sharing the code with other developers and
keeping source in VSS File System seems to be more flexible choice.
However, my current understanding is that when you keep it in the File
System and start it from Visual Studio it runs on Web Server built...
