Web service object referencing

1 New Member
Hi,

I am developing a system in .NET that will run as a Windows Service hosting a set of Web Services. I have developed the appropriate hosting environment using the classes available in the System.Web.Host ing namespace and all is running OK.

My issue is that I want the Web Services to be able to get some data from a collection instance held in the Windows Service. I am guessing that AppDomains may be playing a part in this, but I have only ever used Web Services to extract and return data from a DB.

In short, my question is how can I share a collection object in the Windows Service with the Web Services so that a method in a Web Service can return, for example, the value at a given position? Is this done via Remoting or is there an alternative way?

If anyone can lend a helping hand it will be much appreciated.

Nick.

I'd like to create a subsystem in my asp.net application that is responsible for emails that need to be send out based upon certain events so that the main request/response threads aren't responsible for the communication with the smtp server, etc. I don't want to create a seperate thread for every instance in which a notification must be sent...I'd rather record the necessary information to the db or web cache and let the subsystem be...

I have an ASP.NET (VB.NET) application that calls all VB6 COM DLL via Interop. The DLL uses functionality contained in a Custom OCX Control (Also VB6) that in turn contains a standard TreeView control. The Custom OCX is not used for visual purposes, but has some functionality that we require (hence hosting an OCX in a DLL). Everything worked fine until we installed the latest service pack for each respective windows operating system:...

I have a web application which references a service tier class library/assembly. The service tier assembly takes a domain object, serializes it to xml and then performs a translation to generate HTML. To do so, the service class utilizes a .xslt file. 1. How do I get the service tier .xslt file to be included in the web application build without making the .xlst file an embedded resource? When debugging, the .xslt file is not copied...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
