Membership credential verification failed...

Hi all,

I have a problem with a webservice using WSE 3.0. I have a web-service which
pulls data from a database and a client which pulls the data from the
webservice. I have created a user using the web admin tool and everything
works fine. However, I need to run the client application as a windows
service and this is where the fun begins. Whenever I run the windows service
I am unable to log into the webservice and subsequent calls from the client
application (i.e. the same code as the windows service but running as a
stand-alone app) fail with the same error. In the event log before the first
failure I get an ASP.NET webevent stating "Membership credential verification
failed".

What's really strange is that if I delete the user from the database (and
re-create them with the same credentials), the client application will work
again (until the windows-service is re-run).

I have checked the application name in the membership provider as this seems
to be the general answer for this issue but this is ok. The fact that it
works when running as an application suggests that everything is fine. I
suspect that it is something to do with the account that the service is
running in (which is Local System). I don't see how that should effect the
webservice though (especially when they are running on different machines)

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have a tight deadline for this and
have already wasted far too much time trying to find a resolution.

Neil.

OK, I read and read again information on using the logon control, 'custom providers' but none are really helping me out with creating a provider to go against my database to validate the users logging into my web app. What happens when a user logs into my site is, 8 queries are executed, 1 verfies the user, and the others get data pertaining to that users id, so drop downs are populated for that user, etc., So is it possible to use the...

I have a small console app that started out in dotnet 1.1 in VS 2003. That version can be copied to a W2K3 server where it runs fine. I set up a new project in VS 2005 and copied the code files from 2003 to 2005 where they compile and run, no problem. When I copy the two files (exe & dll) to the same W2K3 server they fail with the Strong Name Verification Failed error. After running the console contains: "Unhandled Exception:...

My ASP.Net application, that uses the SQL Membership Provider, runs fine on my development box (server2003) as long as I use the standard provider. But, in anticipation of deployment to other servers I am attempting to register another provider instance. I'm not sure this is the right deployment choice but I haven't found any guidelines on how to best deploy apps using the SQL Membership provider. I first attached...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
