Overriding Child Form Close

1 New Member
Hi:

New to C#,

I have a MainForm (parent) that can potentially have multiple child forms (in a tabbed interface).

Mainform has closing event defined for "Close All" (through a menu option) which basically gives user list of all child forms and asks if want to be saved or not.

Similarly, each child form has "Close" which gives a warning about closing that specific form without saving.

But Exit and "X" (Close button in the corner) of the Mainform first calls each "Close" event for child form and when all of them are over, it calls the "Close All" of the parent. This seems to get user frustated.

Is there a way that the Exit and "X" does not call the child form closes before calling "Close All"?

Help, well appreciated.

I have an MDI app that allows the user to open multiple client address child forms. The user has a child form open that has client id "1001" and the records associated data displayed. If the user chooses to open a new child form and then try to select client id "1001" again, I would like to automatically close this form and bring the other form that already had client "1001" to the front. With the code below, I can find the correct...

Hey guys, maybe someone can help me with some MDI issues I have. A co-worker asked me a very simple question, one that I blew off as trivial, and it has become a time-consuming issue. Simply put, there is an MDIForm and a child form. The MDIForm does the usual from within its constructor... this.IsMdiContainer = true; Form2 frm = new Form2();

I did a ton of searching to try and find a simple solution to this issue and finally wrote my own, which I am sharing with everyone. In my searching, I did find a very complete and robust solution at http://weblogs.asp.net/asmith/archive/2003/09/15/27684.aspx but it was far more complex then I needed. (I got lost trying to figure it all out). Therefore, here goes my simple "web dialog box with parent event handler fireing" solution. ...

Hi this is related to a previous post, hopefully just a bit clearer description o the problem. I have a parent form that opens a new form (child form) while still leaving the parent form open. Although the child form has a close button (with java script) if the user navigates the parent form to another form the child form is still open. Just wondering if there is a way to close the child form when the user navigates away with the parent...

Is there ANY easy way to close a MDI Child form in the middle of it's load? For instance, during the Load event I find a need to close the form (for whatever reason - maybe the user isn't ready for it yet, or it displays another form and they hit cancel). In any event, I need to be able to cause that MDI Child form to close. Just sticking Me.Close in there won't work, generates an error (note however, that on a NON-MDI form this seems to...

For some reason, when I click the X to close my MDI parent form, the action appears to be re-directed to one of the MDI child forms, and the parent remains open. I am then unable to close the application. What should happen, is that the main MDI form should close, taking the child forms with it. There is code to loop through the child forms, remove the controls on each of them, and then close the form, but this code should execute only...

Hi, I have an MDI application that uses a generic "ShowPage" routine in a module that is called when I want to display a child form. The basic idea is that in the module I have declared each form as follows: Friend F0 As frmMain Friend F1 As frmStart Friend F2 As frmSearch Then in my ShowPage routine (which is passed a string "pageToShow" which is the name of the form I wish to open), I first check to see if we already have an instance...

I have a MDI form, sometimes child forms and sometimes forms that are neither If I close the app the child forms closing and closed event happens followed by the Mdi form receiving the events.. But the regular forms that are also open do not receive that event. This is true whether there are child forms open or not.

Hi, I am developing an application which has established on MDI Form and there are many MDI Child forms. My problem is starting when i close the mdi child forms. They are not disposed from the virtual memory, so it wastes much memory for the clients. I trigger GC.Collect and i also implemet IDisposable method for all object that i have created. But when i use a memory profiler that shows the status of the current object for my...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
