Force a derived class to Serialize/Serialise as its base class

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to force a derived class to serialise/serialize
as its base class. I was hoping that this was possible by just
applying an attribute to the the sub class.

public class BaseClass
{
}

// some sort of attribute to force serialization as type of BaseClass
[XmlType(typeof( BaseClass))]
public class DerivedClass: BaseClass
{
}

The base class is actually generated from XSD so I created a
DerivedClass to add a few helper methods. So, I just want the
serialization of the base class to take place.

Thanks,

Phil

Hi all, I have a templated class that derives from a non-templated abstract class. How do I then cast a base class pointer to a <templated> derived class pointer in a generalised fashion? Here's what I'm generally trying to achieve: I'm building (trying to anyway) a serialization library. Here's my design:

I am receiving an error stating that File or Assembly name <filname.dll>, or one of its dependencies, was not found In one assembly I have three abstract classes In another I have three derived classes from the abstract classes The 1st class contains the 2nd class The 2nd class is a custom collection for the 3rd class

I'm having a very strange problem with XML serialization. I'm writing web services which pass instances of various classes back and forth as parameters and return values of web methods. The problem is that in my derived classes, the XML that is automatically generated is lacking the properties of the base class. For example: public class MyBaseClass { public MyBaseClass ( ) { } private string myVariable;

Hi group I am quite new to xml. I have a strong typed collection derived from a collection base, and i need to serialize it. I have seriously search on the net and don't find any help about how to make a collection serialisable with a real name (with not the ArrayOf prefix) There is a workaround by encapsulate the collection as a property in another class and serialise that class.

I know I've seen this before but I can't remember how to serialize a class with it's definition. For example I want each class to serialize not only with it's fields' values but the fields data type as well. I'm using XmlSerializer now. Thanks, Joe

OK, I've asked nicely before; now I'm going to throw down the gauntlet to anyone brave enough to take it up. In VB'2005, can anyone write me a class that inherits from System.Data.DataTable, add it to a System.Data.DataSet (a /normal/ one, /not/ a subclass), serialise the whole lot to, say, a file and then deserialise the whole shooting match back into the classes they started with? (All my attempts seem to lose all the Type information...

Hi, I have actually found 2 ways to do this. One uses the XmlInclude attribute in the base class A, specifying the valid derived types to deserialize from the stream, and one uses one of the 8 XmlSerializer ctor's to specify base class A and derived class B relationships. However, XmlInclude only works at compile-time, and I would like to support serialisation for future derived classes C in other modules. So in this case, this option...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
