Hi all,
I would like to find a more pythonic way of solving the following:
Having a string consisting of letters only, find out the total sound
score of the string. The sound score is calculated as the sum of the
transition scores between the characters in that string. The transition
scores are stored in a 26 x 26 matrix. I.e. the transition A -> F would
have the score soundScoreMatrix.

Hi all,
I have a list of items that has contiguous repetitions of values, but
the number and location of the repetitions is not important, so I just
need to strip them out. For example, if my original list is
, I want to end up with .
Here is the way I'm doing this now:

Is there any way I can reduce the size of internal buffer to store
characters by std::string?
After having used a string object to store large strings, the object
seems to
retain the large buffer as I found out calling by capacity().
What if I do not need all that buffer space again want to reduce the
size to
a smaller one? I tried resize() passing a smaller size than the

After discovering Cassini is crippleware I learned how to use Start Options
to disable NTLM and enable support for the default web server on my XP Pro
dev platform. Now all new projects are created as websites. I was happy
until when out of the blue Cassini has re-enabled itself for one of the
websites I am developing. Despite the Start Option settings I can't get rid
of the Cassini pest and my website will not load from the IDE.
Does...

I have a solution that is in development under VS2003 and has been 'ported'
to VS2005. The painful experience of running this newer version of VS
revolves around one form. This form is very dense in controls and has
difficulty in VS2003 when changes were being made to the form in question
( as if the entire code behind was being rewritten adding the new lines of
code behind -- albiet very predictable and stable ). The experience is
VS2005...

Hi to all
I'm askyng you a suggestion about the best way to share the same source code
between VS2003 and VS2005.
The project I'm developing is a controls and components library, and the
Solution.sln includes a standard WindowsForms application for testing
pourposes.
What I need is an efficient and reliable way to edit and test the DLL
assembly in both environments, since the library will be distributed for
Framework 1.1 and 2.0.

1) From 2.4.2 documentation:
There are two new valid (semantic) forms for the raise statement:
raise Class, instance
raise instance
2) In python:
>>> raise NameError
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<stdin>", line 1, in ?

(The "C++ Grammer" thread in comp.lang.c++.moderated prompted this post).
It would be more than a little bit nice if C++ was much "cleaner" (less
complex) so that it wasn't a major world wide untaking to create a toolchain
for it. Way back when, there used to be something called "Small C". I wonder
if the creator(s) of that would want to embark on creating a nice little
Small C++ compiler devoid of C++ language features that make...

I know there must be a simple method to do this.
I have implemented this function for calculating a checksum based on a
ones complement addition:
def complement_ones_checksum(ints):
"""
Returns a complements one checksum based
on a specified numpy.array of dtype=uint16

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
