I was a Java developer so I'm used to using property files as a means to keep
configuration settings for my apps. I'm wondering what options are there with
..NET?
Some settings I want to include are like a root directory for a target
program on the user's machine my app uses, which they would be prompted to
supply at startup. Normally the registry is used for this but I'd rather not
use the registry if possible. Isn't there some kind of...

I currently use statements like this in my 1.1 code.
System.Configuration.ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings
I use this in DLLs that are referenced by the application. The application
has this data in its app.config file. I would like to switch to the new
Setting files in 2.0, but I don't know if I can access these settings from a
different DLL. I can't make a reference in the DLL back to the application
because that would create a...

What does mean this error?
The current configuration system does not support user-scoped settings.
I'm accessing a my.settings data from a DAL dll referenced by an ASP.NET
app. I've a similar other application that works well. The one with the
problem is an 1.1 upgraded, the one that works a native 2.0. I cannot find
differences :(

The my.settings name space is easy to use to modify User settings from
within code, but the application settings can't seem to be modified that
easily.
I want the user to be able to modify some of the application setting ( like
my connection strings) through a friendly user interface on one of my forms,
without having to go in the .config file with notepad. If its in my code I
can do testing and validating when he chages things.
Any...

I have an .exe console project and a class library project as part of a
solution. The .exe has an App.config file and I have used the Settings
page to add some Application level settings.
When I try to retrieve a setting using this code:
//Method 1
string s = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings;

I have a DLL Winform project. I've double-clicked Settings.settings under
Properties, and create the following application setting:
Name: MySetting1, Type: string, Scope: Application, Value: c:\TestDocs
When I need the MySetting1 value, just use the following in my C# code:
string sVal = "WordDocGenDefaultDirectory";
string str = Properties.Settings.Default.ToString();

Hello,
I'm trying to use the VS2005 Settings file so as to get strongly typed
settings.
I want the following:
- Have all my application setting (with application scope) defined centrally
in my app.exe.config file
- give the right to assemblies to have their own settings file (e.g.: for
settings used only internally)

I have an application that can't use the registry to save various user
options and application settings. My first thought was to simply use an
application configuration file but this approach seems flawed. The app
config file appears to be updated with values while the application is
running but when the application closes, the file seems to get restored to a
pristine state and the accumulated user options and application settings are...

When using the properties designer to store application wide properties how
do you get this to work across a project group containing an EXE and a
collection of DLLs. I'm using C#.Net 2005. I noticed that the designer
creates and app.config that gets copied to the output directory as a
.exe.config or .dll.config. In this setup any
Application Scope property that is in the .exe.config file can
be read in from the file and used. My...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
