Hi all,
I am having one confusion regarding webmethod's fire and forget
behaviour.
Say suppose i have method like
[ SoapRpcMethod(O neWay=true) ]
[ WebMethod(Descr iption="Starts nightly stats batch process.") ]
public void StartStatsCrunc h() {
// Begin a process that takes a long time to complete.
}
StartStatsCrunc h contains some long running code say more than 1 hours.
My client which is windows application has invoked this methods. So my
question is suppose i close my windows application what will happen
with this remote call. Will it continue its execution. Or is there any
link between client's thread and thread on which my webmethod is
running.
Please correct me if i am wrong.
thanks in advance. 2 1777
Hi,
When a web method is one way, the client does not expect a response message.
As you said, it is fire and forget, if you close the application, the
service will continue executing.

Hi,
In my project I have a seperate logging application. I use remoting to log
to it. The remoted object exposes a certain (log-)interface, and the methods
therein are all OneWay methods (decorated with the OneWay attribute).
In my real application, I connect to the remoted log-object (using
RemotingServices.Connect). This returns a proxy for the remoted object, which
I cast to the logging-interface.

I have a web service and I'm using a connection string to SQL Server that
specifies "Integrated Security=SSPI" to impersonate the calling user. My
setup works fine until I add the attribute
to the web service, and then I start getting the error: Login failed for
user '(null)'. I'm guessing that this has something to do with threading and
the new thread not having the context of the calling user. Can somebody
enlighten me?
Thanks,
Chris

I've added my custom attribute to a web service's method. When I
consume the web service and attempt to check the value of the attribute,
it's not there, but the WebMethod attribute is. My attribute descends
from the same System.Attribute class as the WebMethod attribute does.
Can anyone tell me why it has gone missing?

If server 01 running HADR in the primary role crashes, and the DBA does a
HADR takeover by force on the 02 server to switch roles, then the 02 server
is now the primary.
What happens when the Server 01 is brought back up? It still thinks it is
the primary because that was its role when it crashed and it does not know
about the takeover by force command that was issued. Does the 01 server
check the 02 server to see what role they are in...

Folks,
I have a Web service with the two possible types of methods - OneWay and
Request/Response. The problem is while debugging I cannot step into the
OneWay methods, while trying to do the same with Request/Response methods is
working just fine! Have any ideas why this happens? I have Microsoft .NET
framework 2.0 and Visual Studio 2005 as the development platform.

I have a WebMethod with the attribute OneWay set to True. When the
acknowledgement gets sent back to the calling computer the content-type
HTTP header is not present, and my firewall drops the response. Is
there anyway to explicitly set the content-type header or have it
automatically generated? I realize that since there is no payload it
makes sense not to have a content-type specified, but changing how the
firewall works is not an...

Hello all,
I was wondering... If you look in the documentation and on the web to
find any info on long running webservice calls, they all come down to:
Add the SoapDocumentMethod Attribute to your webmethod and set it's
OneWay property to true.
Nowhere I can find though what will happen in any of the following
situations:

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
