Design suggestion for C# application

Dear All,

I request your suggestion for the following requirement.

One of the requirements of my applications is to gather data from
multiple vendors about their products - the number of fields vary from
50 to 150 fields. Based on the data collected from all the vendors, my
application should consolidate all the inputs and assess the value /
criticality / complexity of each product based on the business rules.
Also it has to provide facility to do multi dimensional analysis.

My application is being developed using C Sharp. No database is
expected to be used for data collection and analysis. This is purely a
windows application and not a web application due to some constraints.

My queries are,

1. What would be a best method to collect data from different vendors?
In one of the existing systems, an excel sheet is being sent to vendors
and data is collected. But automation of customization on the number of
fields that need to be captured is a difficult task in excel. Can it be
a light weight C Sharp windows application which can be installed in
Vendor's machine to collect data? Is it good to collect data in XML
format from Vendors? Or any other approach would be helpful?

2. For analysis purpose, Is it good to use a single XML to consolidate
all the data and analyse?

Your suggestions are welcome.

Thank you in advance

Venkat

I have an order processing application with many features. I want to be able to put some features in external and configureable DLLs. The main application has to pass an order object (and possibly some other objects) to the external dll. I have designed a base class with just interfaces on which the real dlls base. The main application has a reference to this base class. The external dlls (and the base class) need a reference to the...

Hello, We intend to create an ASP.NET-based Web application (hosted on Internet Information Services, or IIS) and one feature of the application needs to allow the end user to upload photos to the server. I have developed a custom control to be used in my application. My application includes a form designer, so the control can be hosted while designmode for the control is either true or false, depending on whether they are using the form designer, or in "run mode". The custom control includes a slider control that is supposed to be active in our form designer (designmode=true) and inactive in our run mode (designmode=false). The problem...

Hello, Just some background: I'm developing an application that basically executes series of tasks. So far I have 2 group of tasks run on different threads (2 different threads). Which run in parallel. Now, these threads need read-only access to app config settings Object. So, I have one public class with 1 static field - Hashtable which holds key/value configs settings. So far, application runs in debug mode without any errors. Is that...

Hello, I have a situation where I need to design a library for multi-thread application, each thread does some work in a client supplied std::ptr_fun(free_function) or a functor. Now since it's a multi-threaded application, naturally I want the call back functor to be created on a per thread basis. Suppose my thread is so defined template <typename servlet_type>

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
