Setup projects stopped working

I have Visual Studio 2003 for quite some time, and was creating several
setup projects with it. Suddently it stopped working. When I create a
new setup project, and try to add a file in "Applicatio n Folder", it
gives me an error "The operation could not be completed". Nothing more,
just this message. Adding folders works, but files - no way.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

Regards,
Michau.

I have a solution with 6 or so projects, some dts dll's, a couple images, etc. I have a working setup project that creates a nice installation msi. Cool. Now I want to obfuscate my .exe and my .dll's, & have the Setup project build using the obfuscated files. I manually copy the obfuscated files back into each project's obj/release folder. Then I build the setup project (while not re-building anything else, of course). That seems to...

I find in the last 3/4 days that I can't open web applications using VS.net 1.1 for enterprise architiect. The project I am currently working on just refuses to open and hangs. I try using IIS to browse the asmx file and that also hangs. I try to see the files using Windows Explorer via My Network Places\localhost and no files or sites are visible at all. IIS shows anonymous access allowed plus also have tried to get in with...

I want my aps to the insalled as was the old way under c:\Program files\Myapp or give the user the choice as before of installing the app in another folder location. That again no longer seems to be the default way things are done when you publish an app in Vs2005, Microsoft has again <GGGG> seen in their infinite wisdom that they needed to build a better mousetrap for us. Now they install app somewhere in the mydocuments folder...

We have a very large code base and use the partitioned solution model for development and deployment. The problem is that in .NET 2005 the setup projects cause severe performance problems when working with the master build solution in the .NET IDE. Currently we have about 300 projects with another 150+ going to production in the coming months. The build server we use is a Windows 2003 server with quad Intel Xeon processors and 2GB...

Hi! I'm not sure is this the right place for this question, but... I have made three separate C#-windows forms projects into same solution using Visual Studio 2005. These projects are using same database, but are doing different tasks - so these are like different applications. When I built deployment release and run setup, files and starting shortcuts of these three applications will be installed into target computer at the same...

"The project that you are attempting to add to source control may cause other source control users to have difficulty opening this solution or getting newer versions of it. To avoid this problem, add the project from a location below the binding root of the other source controlled projects in the solution" Visual Studio 2005 I added a setup project to my solution and it was created in a subdirectory at the same level as the root of the...

Hello I have a "solution" that has 7 VB.Net projects in it. Some of the VB.Net projects are dll librarys but 3 are applications (so there are 7-3=4 dlls) I want to install with a setup program/application. I have created a Setup application as part of my "solution" using the wizard. One of the windows in my Setup application has a check box that says "Install Application 1". Another checkbox says "Install Application 2". The last one...

In VS2005 I have a working setup project that installs several CABs with the main app. I also need to have a setup project that only installs the app itself. I created a new setup project and added the build output of the deployment CAB, and the primary output from my custominstaller dll class. So the only difference between the first, working setup project and the new app-only project is that I didn't inlcude the additional CABs and INIs in the...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
