Installing dotNET V2.0 (or not)

Hi you all out there,

Some months ago I installed dotNET Framework Version 1.1. I
Needed that for a program to work. Since a while I keep getting
reminders from the Windows update site, there's an upgrade/update
to Version 2.0 waiting for me.
As far as I understand, this dotNET Framework- 'thing' is for
better performance of your (IE)-browser and for developers to
write programs.
In the meanwhile, I'm using Mozilla Firefox for internetbrouwsi ng
and I am definitely not a developer. So, after finally
downloading and installing Version 2.0 there are some
difficulties I encountered. F.i. it does not show in the Start
=.Config =System (what does show is the V1.1) and a
cleaningprogram is cleaning some 10 obsolete entries concerning
dotASP but they are still coming back. Again and again......
I removed this V2.0 and tried a re-install but that didn't do the
trick. I finally removed it.
My question is, Do I really need to install this 2.0- version for
my Firefox browser???? The earlier program I mentioned only needs
the V1.1 and is still performing well.

Many thanks in advance,

Angelique

Hi,

i don't think you need any of the .Net framework for firefox to work.
however, some other software might. but if they do, you will be notified
during the installation. if you are not a developer, you probably only
require the runtime version of the .NET framework. windows update is
notifying you because version 2.0 is the new version of the .NET framework.

Ekhorutomwen hi,

Thanks for your reply. I can live with what you are saying.
I already removed it from my machine and everything is still
working well.

Thanks again.

I'm trying to install the dotnet framework 1.1 on a Windows 2000 Pro, SP 4 box. I've downloaded dotnetfx.exe and am installing from c:\temp. This is the error message that I get: Error 1606. Could not access network location %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools. The folder exists and I've given full permission to it to everyone, so I don't think this is some kind of security issue. Here's the installation log:

Win2000 machine Purchased Autocad 2006 full version. Installation of Autocad went ok, but when trying to launch Autocad, it gives a fatal error. Dotnet error 2908. Saying that dotnet needs to be installed. Tried installing dotnet; unable to, it says "internal error". How do I get dotnet installed without errors? It seems like a registry glitch somewhere. Any clues?

I made the above change to my web.config file so that errors would be reported from a remote site as explained in the Server Error: Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrorstag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrorstag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off". ...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
